    Lame cattle

    Laminitis is more prevelant in dry lotted cattle fed high grain diets.  Arthritis is possibility to be considered. Its tends to affect cattle that have had fevers or excessive joint stress. Excenel and dex can help with both. However lamintis is permanent and just a manner of managing symptoms.

    If it was feed related his stomach pH may now be out of sack. With the importance of gut health in mind you may wish to ask your vet about a probiotic or probias to help get the guts back healthy to get the steer back on feed and gaining.

    Is the steer on a high concentrate diet. I would try a three day treatment of trimidox and drench with oxamin powder. It sounds to me like a bacterial infection as a result of overload. Good luck.

    Maine bulls

    Have had good success adding frame with a Hercules son in our commercial cows years ago. I believe Hansen's in Saskatchewan have semen on Hercules. Full blood bulls also do a great job if white markings aren't an issue.
