    Bad Straws

Good question.  What power of magnification is used to view semen?  Is it 100X or 430X or higher?

    old horned shorthorn bulls semen

Good points, one and all.  Before this thread fades away, I've just gotta ask if anyone knows of semen from the old Haumont bulls?  Sons of Par Defender, such as Promise Defender, etc.  Also, I found that a man named Richard Staebel from....Minnesota? had dual shorthorns and possibly one of the...

    old horned shorthorn bulls semen

Justintime and everyone,     I kindly thank you all for these responses.  I'm learning volumes from this thread.  Now, I am extremely interested in semen from the Seagrave bull.  It is always a draw when a bull is known to have come from a fantastic cow.  The same is true, I'm told, for Nelco...

    old horned shorthorn bulls semen

I appreciate the feedback. The Lacombe Dock reminded me that there is also Melbros Stronghold out there, but he too is dual.  And yes, dual cattle can be thick and growthy.  The bull calf under my profile is 8 months and totally Haumont genetics.  He's a replica of his grandsire, Promise a Chief...

    old horned shorthorn bulls semen

At the moment I have no semen.  As for horned, dual, I know of a son of Canadian Image.  Beside that, the HUB bulls, I believe are available.  What I have in mind are the large, beef bulls shown on Ralph Larson's website featured in a Voices from the past article.  Maybe this is not a good...

    old horned shorthorn bulls semen

Having been raised with shorthorns and recently in a situation to start breeding them again, I find myself, 35 years later, starting a small herd.  Presently, I have 5 cows and a yearling bull.  As a kid, our beltbuckle shorthorns were hardy, but in the 1970' way, way too small.  My father did...

    Strange death

If you have any more calves show up (it is genetic), dehydrate it as soon as you can to get rid of the edema.  Feed it hay, if it would eat, but no water until the size of brisket reduces.

    New Years Resolution

The light roan is fabulous.  My complements.

    Cow size

Excellent article.  Let's not allow our big cattle on short legs become small cattle on short legs.  As a kid, our large brisket, belt buckle 4-H steers went to end of the line, deservedly so.  Later, was a "dual" bull that straightened my dad's herd out.

shorthorn bull: Cruachan Max Leader 551

A fellow shorthorn breeder, Dennis Hoffrogge, has a stoutly bred calf out of Cruachan Max Leader 551.  The bull has a nice photo and was a high gaining test bull.  I see his sire was a Thomas Leader bull.  Do any of you remember this bull?  I'm mostly interested in the offspring phenotype and...

    Kenmar President 26A

Excellent photo.  He is definately a masculine bull.  He resembles 26A as does Dennis Hoffrogge's bull calf.  I also appreciate knowing that 26A should complement the Haumont/Meadowbrook genetics.  Thank you all for the comments and photo.

    Kenmar President 26A

I noticed this old shorthorn bull was recently mentioned.  I like his EPD's.  Do any of you have opinions about him and his offspring?  Are his bulls masculine?

    1973 Shorthorn bull

Does anyone know the name of the 1973 National Western Stock Show champion shorthorn bull that was disputed  concerning age and purity?
