    Star Power

Sold a Walks Alone steer out of a Star Power cow for 4,250 this past fall.  Good bull that is not calving ease as previously pointed out.

Breeding angus cow to clubby bull

Of what you have in your tank, I would use Unstoppable and MAB would be my second choice.

Color me up bull - worth a try?

First of all, Troubador didn't work for me on SimAngus cows.  I think he works best on those powerfull little Heat Waves and Monopolies that are THC.  I think I would give Color Me Up a try on those cows (or another CharX bull like Solid Gold maybe).

Daughter's New Show Heifer Out Of Monopoly - Please Critique

I like her. I have a solid black monopoly heifer just like her that raised my high selling steer this year. The chrome is a nice extra touch. Good luck with her!

    FIREWATER

This is a bull that I have been tempted to try but was afraid he may add frame which I don't need.  So it is interesting to see that Till-Hill thinks he will reduce frame.  Also, Freddy, good point about those fancy pictures.  Ultimately, the proof in in the offspring, right!

    pneumonia-mycotil

I switched to Draxxin after using Micotil for many years.  Micotil works great for respiratory infections.  You give a shot under the skin and it lasts for three days.  Dosage is based on the calf's weight.  But it can kill you like BTDT points out.  I actually stuck myself with a syringe full...

    Walks Alone, BIM and MAB

I have had over 30 Walks Alone Calves with absolutely no calving problems.  About 10 were second calvers. Never used BIM or MAB but plan to use MAB this fall after seeing some of his calves.

    Hard bellied/middled heifer

I have heard that adding beet pulp to the ration will fill out the belly and make them look fuller if that is what you are trying to accomplish.

    Injection Site Swelling

Some medicines can cause injection site swelling.  But it can also be caused by a dirty needle or a dirty injection site.  On show cattle, it is best to clean the injection site with an antiseptic solution and use fresh needles for each injection.  If you do reuse needles clean them with an...

Jason, I just want to know what you do in you spare time. Keep up the good work!

    orphaned calves as show animals?

Those orphan calves start off with such a big disadvantage. If you have to bottle feed them I would say absolutely no. They don't grow and they tend to get pot bellied. But if you can graft them onto a cow that has lost a calf and milks good then the calf should do just fine---and you could hang...

    Bull help

I would rather go with something out of the Heatwave line.  Using a Simi on Angus will make some nice cows but I don't think you will end up with any competive show steers.  Maybe Heatwave on the Angus and Walks Alone or Monopoly on the Angus X Gelveigh cows.  If you want color maybe Solid Gold...

Heifers selling and retaining 1/2 embryo interest ?

I agree with Doc that it can be a marketing ploy to make people think the female is worth more than she really is.  Most likely the only way the seller will push for those embryos is if the female produces some very valuable progeny.

    Delicing Calves

Use a product like Saber to get rid of those lice.  No need to use a broad spectrum wormer.

What do ya'll think of this exciting bull calf?

When you say leave him a bull, I wonder what kind of cows you would use him on.  Nice front on  him.  He may work on some heavy muscled charalois cows to pretty them up.You can always take the nuts off but you can't put them back on so you are smart to think this through.

    MONOPOLY 2 baby calves

Just the opposite here but my Monopolies are making good cows.

    ideal cow

Really nice cow.  Hard to fault her from  the photo.  Would like to have a pasture with that much grass!

For those that feed round bales in this weather

This is the way to do it most effciently.  Cheap hay from years past has made us lazy.  The rings are convenient but wasteful.

Potentially Killed a Calf - Unknowingly

I use 5 cc Lutalyse and 10 cc of Dex to induce labor.  It woirks like charm.  But I only do this when I want to induce labor at full term for a live calf.  I believe the dex helps them come in milk.

Potentially Killed a Calf - Unknowingly

I have seen lutalyse not abort long bred cows so hopefully you won't lose this pregnancy.  We ultra sound our cows between 30 and 90 days.  It is the best way to determine pregnancy and fetal health. You can also determine sex of calf between 60 and 90 days which is good to know.
