Love that red calf beside the white cow.  Guess that is #4.  Good job!

    Hauling a bred cow

You shouldn't haul cows right after breeding but she is far enough along where it would be safe to haul her.

    Stock trailer floor

I replaced the floor in my trailer last year with 2 X 8 treated pine.  The first floor in my trailer was oak.  The oak was very slick when wet and started rotting after only 2 years.  I wouldn't use it again.

    New design 878

I have had some good ones out of purebred Simmentals.  He will reduce frame so I wouldn't use him on small cows.

How do I get the opportunity to travel and do farm visits and semen sales?

Contact the major studs like ABS and Genex.  They do use independent contractors to market their semen.  You should develop a resume that stresses your experience, education and skills related to cattle and cattle breeding.  Good luck!

Has anyone seen any MAB x PB Charolais calves?

Another Monopoly son that I am thinking about for a Char donor is Fu Man Chu. Any thoughts on that mating?  Sorry if I am diverting this post a bit.

    MAB

I have had better luck with him on larger framed cows.  My best calves have been out of either charolais or simangus cows.  He tends to reduce frame.  Some of my MAB calves out of more moderate, clubby cows were too short to work but that could have been because they were TH.  He adds hair...

    Show Cattle Temperament Concerns

Temparment can vary with gentics but it is the very first thing I cull for.  Safety, enjoyment over winning is priority structure I follow.

    Mr. Firewater calves

"All I was talking about was why they weren't getting the growth out of Firewater that they expected.  Growth is not everything functionality counts as well as muscle.for example. If you are looking for an easier fleshing ,more muscled Charolais and don't mind sacrificing some growth then look...

    best Angus bull

My best Angus sired crossbred cows are out of OCC Legend and OCC Emblazon.  If would be hard to find semen on the these two but other bulls with OCC genetics should produce similar females.

    MAB CALF PICTURES

Nice calves!  I think you will like the way they turn out.  MAB seems to work good on charolais.

Believe in Me or Walks Alone

Never used Believe in Me but I can speak for using Walks Alone.  He has really worked well on my maternally based SimXAngus cows.  I have sold several steers that have done well.  Also, have six of his daughters in production that are doing a good job.  One raised a class winner at Houston this...

    Houston livestock show

Are you sure about that?  I sold a steer to kid in Florida 3 years ago and it was 2nd place at your state steer show.  I am from Texas.

When using cidrs what is your breeding sequence?

My protocol is very similar except I give Lute on day 6 and remove CIDRs on day 7.  That seems to tighten up synchrony so more cows can work as recips.  I don't bred or use any cow as a recip if not observed in standing heat.

    AI DVD

I can't imagine learning how to AI without hands-on training.  Here is a good link on  basic AI technique that doesn't cost $100.  http://www.bovine-elite.com/NewsAITechnique.pdf  Good luck!

    Heifer breeding issue

She is a January 1, 2014, right?  that would make her 14 months old.  She should be cycling.  Give her a shot of lute about a week after you see the blood and put a patch on her.  She should cycle in 3-4 days if she has a CL.  If not. have her palpated to make sure she is reproductively sound. ...

    AI QUESTION!!

I AI with no clean up bull.  When a cow is bred for the first time, I write it down on my calendar.  Then at 15 days past breeding I put an esterus patch on her and chalk her tailhead.  That way if I don't catch her in heat (nighttime or at work) I will know for sure whether she came back in...
