walks alone bred for her third calf

I think Yellow Jacket works best on TH carrier cows with a lot of power, moderate, deep and short bodied.

    Prospect Calf?

Hard to tell from photos--video would be helpful in evaluating soundness.  Looks thick enough, easy doing.  Would like to see him cleaner through the brisket and neck.

    Opinions on Angus Show Steer

I like his front one-third. But he is a little stretched out in the photo to tell much about the rest of him. Keep jup the good work!

    Heat Detection

I use estrus alert patches as others explain plus observe heat 3 times per day for a minimum of 20 minutes.  I check early morning, at dusk and then again around 10 pm.  You would be surprised how many I catch on that 3rd check that weren't in heat at dusk.  Young bull calves sometime help a bit...

Advice on bull to flush our donor to

If you are  serious about something different, you should consider Lovin The Business. He is a TH free son of Yellow Jacket that is siring some stout calves with color.

    Preferred Head Chute?

It's hard to beat a WW chute. I have one that I bought used 24 years ago and it is still going strong. Just put a forever fiber grate floor in it and its good to go another 24 years I think.

    Where to start? Marketable sires!?

I have had good luck with Dikemans Surebet and Ranchhand on heifers. Also used and like 3-c macho but he is not suitable for heifers unless you like to take them out the side door.

    PB Charolais

I'm not a charalois breeder but I wonder what those who are think of Firewater on this cow? Would he add frame? Calve ok?

Bojo- what sort of cow does he need

Next, come on in and I'll give you the tour. By the way, the birth weights on the few Bojos I have had were so low that I have been tempted to use him on heifers.  Sold a Bojo heifer out of a SimAngus cow that won her class at the HOT fair last year.

Bojo- what sort of cow does he need

I've had a few Bojos. They were pretty little calves with no grow.  Moderate and great hair.

Starting a small club calf operation

I agree with Larissa. Build a foundation before you do any ET.

    Which bull to use?

Freddy, hard to say from those profile photos. Any photos from the rear that show his quarter and top better?

Beautiful cinnamon sky and a great set of heifers.  Thanks for sharing!

    Belt Buckle Bonanza

Here is a steer I sold that placed 2nd in ring A, 4th in ring B. the Shannon Marsh family did the heavy lifting and a great job with him. He's out of a first calf Monopoly heifer.

    one thing you could change

It's when the judge doesn't say anything at all that bothers me. Justs flips through the bottom of the class. Maybe they are green or really not show quality but the kids deserve some feed back.

    Bad Udders

I think it is more noticable with club calf genetics since the breeding criteria is usually made for terminal offspring (steers).  The males from those mating may go on to win some big shows but the females end up in the herd (or someone  else's).  Since you were not selecting for good udders in...

Video of our current Charolais Bull. Kuddos to Brad Hood Broadcasting.

Very nice bull, nice video but the music is distracting and somewhat irritating.  Guess it is a pet peeve, but I think music should be left of cattle videos altogether.

    Non-Caucasian Country Folks....

Chambero, if you are talking about SSN and Medicare, you are correct but folks worked and contributed to those programs.  There are a lot of other folks who take advantage of the system.  for example, medicaid and food stamps have become part of the benefit package for the thousands of illegal...

    Non-Caucasian Country Folks....

I worry more about the impact of entitilments on our country than I do immigrantion.  Used to be folks wouldn't take a hand-out unless they were down on their luck.  Nowadays, folks don't mind laying around on the couch, talking on their free phone, drawing extended unemployment or, worse yet...

    cattle prod

I consider a cattle prod a necessary tool that I rarely use.  Ii is so nice to have when occasionally needed.  Usually, if I just produce the the prod, my cows get the message and move up.  I guess I am old fashioned but I hate spoiled cows and spoilled kids.
