There is a knack to it, but like anything it just takes a lot of time and patience.  Whenever we would hire someone to help, I made sure he was teaching me also.  Now we fit our own for the most part unless time is an issue.

That is a name revisited.  If I remember correctly he did produced thick, moderately framed calves.  I have no clue what his semen would be worth today, just hadn't heard that name in a long time.

What did you end up using?

Yeah, genetics are the #1 factor, but if you need to grow hair with a cool room, you can try to make shift it by keeping the calf as cool as possible with fans, daily rinsing, and working dead hair out.

You are very knowledgeable about this subject, have you dealt with water rights on your own land?  Where do we stand now?  We have a small creek/stream that passes through the south part of our pasture and feeds into a water shed.

Nice post, I have wondered the same thing and have always been told 50/50 and obviously the odds don't change, but you wonder if there is something genetically in the male sperm that would play a role in the ability.

Our kids use the 68, extra length is helpful and not really a downside to it.
