Awesome calf, he looks great structurally, he should put on that extra weight easy and do quite well at that show.

My goal is to have some clubies, or on the flip side, have some good replacement cows that will make good cluby mothers.

Hi, if there are anybody from around the Maritimes that has some steers that could be potential market steer projects, that would be great. I'm just starting to look around for one, and all I need is a nice solid, structurally sound calf that will finish at around 1300 by the end of next september.

Yeah, the only problem is that I'm from the Maritimes, and there seems to be many good black angus breeders, but not as many reds yet. Oh well, thanks everyone, you've given me a lot to think about.

Okay, whats better? To be a bigger player in the Red Angus industry for less money, or is it better to be in the middle of the pack with the Angus but spend about the same amount?

I know everyone has their personal preference, but I was just curious whether there is a huge difference between red Angus and black Angus, or whether its just stereotypes.  Like, are there any big differences in size, conformation, temperament, finishing ability and hair coats? Or is the only...

Yeah, in terms of profit my best bet would probably be to steer him then. There are a few farms around, but I doubt they would be willing to pay for a little bull that's unproven, plus he'll be too small by next spring to handle the workload of breeding a bunch of cows.

I don't know what is WDA is, but he weighs around 350-400 pounds I would say, but I could be wrong.

Yeah, I think if I can he achieve 1250 by 15 or so months I'll be happy. I hear that angus are fairly good at converting their feed, so I'm hoping I can get him to market weight by next year. As a side note, do you know what the best cross is for a market steer project in 4H?

He's a fairly thick calf and that's the only reason I thought about keeping him as a bull, but recently I've been leaning towards cutting him. If i were too feed him up, what do you think he'd weigh next september/october?
