    Another great man passes on.

I had several great conversations with Chuck over the years, as I have known him since my birth.  He will be missed at the coming Illinois State Fair and within the Shorthorn Cattle Industry as a whole.  My thoughts and prayers are with the Leemon Family.

    FFA?

I was a member of FFA and really loved it.  Although I am a farm kid, I lived in town during high school.  I had many friends that did not really show livestock or live on a farm and some of them joined FFA as Freshmen too.  They learned quite a bit about crops and livestock from participating...

    Opinions appreciated....

She's nice and thick.  Definitely flashy.  I can't get a good look at her legs though.  I would be interested to see how she's structured.

    Cattle injected with air

Ditto!  Showing cattle has become such a junior sport.  Why not set a good example for these kids.  I wouldn't want my kid getting thrown out of a show for me teaching them bad ethics!  I understand that this is part of the the showing world, but it doesn't have to be condoned and taught to the...

    Soap vs Shampoo

We just use the suave conditioner.  We squirt some in a bucket, fill it with water and then dump/splash it on the calf.  We wait a few minutes, then mist it out.  Works wonders.

    Opinions Please

Wow!  Love the front end! <party>  Glad to hear she's doing well for you.  I've got a radioactive steer that I'm pretty pleased with myself.

    Cattle injected with air

I would recommend contacting your beef superintendent and asking that they find a way to regulate that for next year.

Looks like you got yourself a pretty nice heifer.  Have you tested her for PHA?  I know Radioactive is a carrier.

    what bull should i use?

Thanks for the kudos Justin!  As additional information, Shooter is a Double Vision Grandson (His father's name is HSF AFTERBURN).  Yes, Shooter semen is readily available through us or Cattle Visions.  We will be running an awesome special at Illinois State Fair!  Feel free to pm or email me...

    Soap vs Shampoo

In my experience, the dishsoap does stiffen and dry out their hair.  So, we use Suave shampoo which is usually pretty cheap at like the dollar stores.  I also recommend using conditioner as it makes a HUGE difference in the hair quality.  Even just rinsing with conditioner is GREAT!  However, we...

Looking for a Red Angus heifer!

I'd try Tree Lane Farms in El Paso, IL.  They raise some EXCELLENT Red Angus cattle.  I've heard nothing but good things from their clients.

    Bull or Steer?

I agree.  Wait a little while and see how he grows.  Steers that young can sell better down in the southern states though.

Future Donor ??? Tell Me what you think

I can understand the markings and shadows creating a deciving picture.  I would still recommend Shooter as he can bring those ladies some more depth in that rear quarter.  He would also throw some hairy ones, which is sometimes an added bonus.  However, I will also recommend flushing them to CCS...

Future Donor ??? Tell Me what you think

Nice quality females!  I would like to see the first one with a little more foot & bone underneath her.  TF Shooter would do exactly that.  He also has a tendency to create nice, clean front ended calves that are sound on the move.  Semen is currently $20/unit, but we will be running a special...
