What's the best way to get calves to drink at shows?

same principle as koolaid ... you just dump some in the water to kinda mask the flavor and smell of city water and by starting this at home the "water" is more similar to what they are used to

    Grassfed oxymoron?

They are probably referring to yield grade in therms of "lean" and genetically it is possible (while rare) to even have a Yield Grade 1 and grade Prime (a girl I went to college had a show steer do it) but it takes superior genetics and the right production scenario.

What's the best way to get calves to drink at shows?

We have used Sprite with success.. and its colorless so no issues w/ white hair. The key though is using it at home first.

    Calving management and practices

Im not suggesting that SC directly correlates with an individuals maximum potential Pelvic Area, I am suggesting that a heifer from a larger SC bull would reach her PA maximum potential sooner than those of smaller SC bulls. And according to "The Cambridge Encyclopedia of Human Growth and...

    Drought Predictions

Ok well 2013 is underway. I live in southern MO in the heart of cow/calf country and was wondering what everyone else's weather predictions for this year would be. I personally think that we will once again fall below normal rainfall but not as severely as last year.. but added to the already...

    Calving management and practices

We calve in that 2-2.5 window and it has been literally years since we have pulled a calf or even had a calf in the 90+ lb range. We have used both Angus and Limousin Bulls and there is great genetic diversity in our cow herd. We make sure that our heifers are in great shape when they are bred...

What do you think of this

I completely agree with caldanmc and skeeter20 it isn't your animals fault that it was put in that situation. Really would that animal be any better if it beat 20 head of animals that truly weren't good enough to be show animals, I don't think so... each animal should be judged on its own...

    Eye Candy Dead

My point on the earlier post was to contrast that to many of the PB bulls that stand at stud tend to live longer, while there are some clubby bulls that live to older ages it just seems odd to me that so many die "young" and at the peaks of their popularity... just my humble observation
