    Fullblood Full French Pedigree Charolais

Yes the French breeders raised their Charolais in complete different environment and calving ease was not a prioty, muscle was. But if anyone attended any othe Full French Sales in the US in the 70's, like Nelson Bunker Hunt's sales or the other numerous ones mainly in Texas you realized that...

    Fullblood Full French Pedigree Charolais

Have enjoyed you guys discussion on the french cattle and the domestic charolais. The herd not mentioned that had the Mexican fullbloods that made a large influence in the charolais breed was Yates Ranch. If my memory serves me right, their mexican fullbloods came out the first importation into...

Grand at houston, how did he compare to past champs

The hocks on the Reserve were completely unacceptable. There were too many good steers to use that using a steer with swelled up hocks with fluid pockets to boot should not happen. The Champion was just a nice fronted sound calf that did not compare to Newman's Houston Champion or the Champion...

Pumping/Airing of Showsteers-Any way to control this?

There is a very big difference between implanting  one with a implant that is legal for cattle, feeding any of the products like showmaxx, optiflex that is approved for use in beef cattle and the unelical problems that 4C is addressing. Unfortunately it is a put your head in the sand and ignore...

Pumping/Airing of Showsteers-Any way to control this?

Wasn't refering to cattle that had been aired earlier in their feeding period. No you could not tell, but when A& M did their reasearch on  fresh air and oil and water the folks that witnessed the experiments and the checking it with a sonogram said you would see a " black hole"  if there was...

Pumping/Airing of Showsteers-Any way to control this?

In Texas 10 years ago they sonogramed the cattle at San Antonio and Houston for a few years during that time all the manufacturing practices were at an all time low. Maybe because they did think they would get caught it did not happen near as much. Then they stopped sonograming, reasons you hear...

Fire Water for slick smokey steers

Mark H, I did not explain that the reason for wanting a good pb for club calves is to use on black exotic cows to get smokies. The market down here for blacks is not close to the char crosses, For most people trying toi raise steers. Also you can eliminate having to worry about the sire...

Fire Water for slick smokey steers

Thank you Freddy for your thoughts, guess I hit a nerve with Mark H. I am not a toad fan but realize that to sell show steers for good money you have to raise what is being used. Thank goodness judges aren't using as small a steers as they used to. Charolais is my breed of choice, believe in...

Fire Water for slick smokey steers

Hey, Freddy You were mentioning some of the french and older charolais bloodlines. If you could find any do you think that you could get a moderate, club calf kind of pb bull out of FR31. I know the real FR31's were not that big framed. I am not talking about the ones that were not really out of...

    Fall Classic

Really do think Callahan will not play games after that all the rest is questionable. Been to all but 3 Bonanzas, and this is the first Fall Classic to miss. Just don't subscribe to the behavior and the way things are now.

The craziest thing you have seen at a cattle show

At Denver in the early 80's, they had the old two story cattle barn with a loading dock at the back, while unloading a semi a gert heifer got loose, ran up the stairs and jumped off the second story and landed on top of a guy trimming a simi heifer in a chute. I believe the guy's name was Johnny...

    Oklahoma tornadoes

Has anybody heard if the folks like Bonham in New Castle or Buck at Madill had any storm damage. It looks bad on the news.

    best fitters

The best fitter that was in your era you are talking about was Lyle Miller. The first one to use little clippers of any kind, first person to comb hair forward instead of up with cow licks. Probably knows more about feeding show cattle and steers than anyone today.
