Embryo experts please comment on my recent experience...please!

The embryos sticking only can be something with either the recips or the eggs, whether you go 0 for 10 or 0 for 16 (sure hope not).  Not taking up for the semen, but the semen has done its role. As mentioned earlier there are a number of factors that could have played a role including...

    Feeding bailed corn stalks

Interesting info old timer! I had not heard this.  I think the 20% range cubes will be a good source of protein to go along with the fiber/roughage source the baled corn stalks will provide. You know your herd better than anyone, after feeding this ration you will see if your cattle are...

    Good Momma

Yea I agree with Wyatt.  I'd keep a close watch on her, good for the other two calves, but her natural calf might not get everything he's after with everyone eating of his buffet.

    My Cow eats dirt.

Different areas of the country often have somewhat different requirements in mineral programs.  We feed a high mag mineral free choice in mineral feeders.  Once the cattle get the amount they need they leave it alone.  It is a loose mineral and they seem to do better with it than they do on a...

    your farm history?

Our family farm was started by my grandpa in the 1950's.  He farmed tobacco and ran cattle here in Northwest North Carolina. In the late 60's their home place moved to where it is today.  They raised tobacco into the 1980's and then turned all their tobacco acres into pasture/hay.  My grandpa...

    Opinion on truck

In regard to bigger trucks, I've always heard: If you want a truck, get a 1/2 ton, if you occasionally could use a truck, get a 3/4 ton, if you need a truck, get a ton.  I have had a few F350's and a few F150's.  My F150 will pull my small trailer, but the 350 gets any job done I need.  Not...

    Barn Cameras?

Might still work, if they can run a line to it.  But it does need power to run the cameras and the recording unit or whatever you call it.

    Barn Cameras?

Two are night vision.  Need an internet connection at your barn to view from computer but yes you can fix it to watch from a tv or a computer.  It can be viewed live or playback.  Most phone companies can set you up a connection at your barn pretty inexpensive if you have power to it.

How do your "pop" hair? (Read DETAILS)

We have a fogger, but we also pour this mixture into a mountain dew bottle and put a straw in it.  Put your finger against the straw and put the end of the straw facing the animal with the blower tip against the straw and you have a fogger for $1.50! Lectric shave isn't cheap if you are fitting...

    Glueing Tops

I'm with you!  I helped him clip a few months ago some cattle he had done the fitting on, and compared to Prime Time, their was gum everywhere on the blades and the clipped hair also was still all over the calf with adhesive which made a little of a mess.  Tail Adhesive has its place, but for...

    Barn Cameras?

WBar, Here is a link to the system we purchased.  He bought everything for us and set it up for less than $300, but we could have probably done it ourselves.  Only maintenance we have done (hope we're not supposed to do more...) is make sure cameras stay clean.  About once a month I reach up...

    Transporting Cattle Long Distance

How big is your trailer?  If the cattle have enough room to move around, they will be fine over night.  I would make sure they have hay and water.  As long as the water didn't slosh out of the drum, that would work fine.  Just make sure to check the water when you stop.  Main thing is just...

    Opinion on truck

You can put a gooseneck hitch on any truck, but you tend to see more 3/4 and 1 ton trucks because of the gearing and suspension is better for towing/hauling. I have a F150 with a gooseneck hitch just for our small trailer to haul a few calves down the road or to a sale.

    Input on breeding this donor

I thought thats what you were going for.  The reason I asked was because my background is more with purebred cattle therefore I am more familiar with purebred and 1/2 blood bulls and before I made a suggestion I wanted to make sure I knew what your intentions were with the mating.

shrinking back a cow to be flushed

Cowboy I was getting ready to ship a few donors to Nebraska if you were throwing 100 embryos a flush  ;). I agree with him totally, just went and helped some neighbors setup a heifer they have been showing, they have been laying the feed to her.....First flush....6 eggs....one good one...

    Glueing Tops

I agree, I use Prime Time alot.  I have a friend who uses Tail adhesive on tops, legs, tails, everything.  Guess it is personal preference.  Good luck.
