    Maine CE Bulls

We put Witch Doctor on a handful of Clubby bred heifer two years ago. As a whole the bunch was a little inconsistent. Some really chunky, others a little too racey for me. But as for BW we didn't have any trouble.

    Belt Buckle Cattle

I always thought, and was told that Belt Buckle Cattle were a result of quality grades being implemented in 1928.  When quality grades came into effect breeders moderated cattle to fatten faster/easier. I guess they thought more white then red ment more marbling and consequently higher, more...

    Young Money daughters?

Here is a Young Money heifer that won Reserve Champion Prospect Heifer at the Wyoming State Fair last week. Burch Livestock bred her. I saw on their website that she will be in their fall sale this year.

    Showmanship help

Without knowing what questions you have been asked, or your answers to them I would say.  Be very knowledgeable about you calf, adg, parts, your calves positive and negative characteristics. With the cattle market at all time highs I would definitely be prepared for a price question.

    steer not gaining

If it was me I would first worm him, second I would start him on some sort of probiotic for rumen health.  I would also up your fat content to 3.5-4%. I hope this helps.

    Lame steer

We had one in 2012 that had an abscess from a stone bruise. We soaked it in Epson Salts just like a horse and then packed the hoof with Icthemol (spelling?) and it healed up and he was completely sound in 3 weeks.

    One N Only or Thriller

Comfort Zone, or Gold Rush both work great for second calvers also.

    calving ease EPD number question

Amen! I couldn't agree more. Sometimes people get to caught up in EPD data. We need to remember to evaluate phenotype, and actual BW and actual data.

    feeding strategy question

We had one that was always a challenge to keep trim enough, we turned her out on pasture at night and fed grass hay during the day when she was locked in with some beatpulp and just enough grain in it to get her to eat it. hope this helps

Clean bull to bring down frame

We have had good luck with Uncle Kracker in moderating. We had one heifer out of a frame 5 cow that is two now, she is only 43" so maybe he moderated a little too much there.

    Question about this site?

Lomac, I have noticed this trend too. Unfortunately in the rural location I am in right now my internet service is sketchy.  I have helped youth reach their goals and become successful in the show industry for the last 15 years.  If you daughter has anymore questions or any youth for that matter...

    Opinions on a steer

For as much muscle he has, I like how his shoulder lays in, how good he is in his neck and how much angle he has to his front end. He should make a fun one to feed.

    Frame scores

Thank you again. I think I will call their respective owners because I don't think we will be able to drive out to see them. We have a cow that throws great calves but they get a tick too big and are a little later maturing. We need to take her to a bull that will downsize and make them a little...
