    Peeling brand question

We just purchased a heifer that's been branded. The brand is starting to peel off leaving raw looking hide under it. My question is what's the best way to treat this? Leave it alone or use something on it? I've heard using grease or oil but I don't know what kind. Any help is appreciated.

    Calving

Just wondering out loud. Why can't cows/heifers calve anytime other than late or early as it may be. Had one calf about 2am Sunday a week ago and as I type watching daughters show heifer in labor. Good thing I love cows and my daughter.

    new calf, texas classing?

Simi was my first thought as well. Like I said its been a while and knew that it wasn't going to class American and also not hereford. I don't know enough about other breeds enough to know of most but I am familiar with simis and that's all that came to mind. That or Heinz 57 class. I knew it...

    new calf, texas classing?

I don't know that my daughter will end up showing this calf or not but wandered what this bull calf would class in Texas shows. In the picture he's a day old so I know its hard to say for sure what he will become but with his color I don't know where he'd get placed. His mom is Brangus and his...

    Daughters Hereford heifer

Twisted we are in north Texas just north of Dallas. Our county show is the first week ofJanuary and then we will be going to Ft. Worth. I remember using a neck sweat with my steers way back when. I know it's not likely to make that much difference in a month but with her being young it might...

    Daughters Hereford heifer

This is my daughters first heifer to show. She is a bred and owned late April calf. I was hoping to get a few outside opinions on her good points and her bad points. She has shown twice and finished second in class first time and first in class second time. These were both smaller shows so I...

    using mens pre-shave on calves

We recently were at a show where someone was was using it. I don't know what kind of results they got or how its effectiveness was. They were stalled just across from us and it was overpowering odor. They did win their class for what that's worth.

    Surgical dehorning recovery

I have a calf that's going to be cosmetically dehorned. How long does it take for a calf to recover typically? How long before they get back to being able to handle every day routine?

    Fastest start to first show

What is the shortest time anyone has successfully shown a calf. Successful meaning no run away or unruly behavior from the calf. I am talking not halter broke taken off mom and base start to show. We have a well mannered heifer calf that is about to be weaned. She has been around us and will...

    New additions

This is a picture of a couple of our heifers born this year. Both are sired by an Easy Deal son. The on on the right is just over 2 months old and the lighter calf is just under 2 months. We are excited about the older of the two she has really been coming on. Better yet she is out of a heifer...

    Breeding question

I know for a fact she can't be over a month because she has a two month old calf and the bull didn't get into the field with her at least five weeks after she calved. I know she was mounted just don't know if it took but I am taking her in the next couple of weeks for service from the bull...

    Breeding question

I am afraid that one of our cows has been bred back by her brother and was wandering the easiest way to abort the pregnancy without setting the cow back. If she is bred she would no more than a month along. She's a registered Hereford and we are wanting to breed her to another bull. So I guess...

    Hereford bull (new pic)

I know, he has crazy hair, especially for Texas. When I showed in highschool I would have killed for his hair on my steers. If his hair would have been worked with like show animals you could have added a couple of inches of thickness to his legs alone not to mention his backside.

    Hereford bull (new pic)

We finally got a nice day to go out and mess with the animals today. You can tell from the picture that it was still quite wet but none the less a pretty day. This is the same bull calf as in my avatar just older. He is just over 7 months old now. I know it is just one picture taken from my phone...

    Ft Worth's Champion Hereford steer

Stealing a thought from another post on the champion Hereford at ft. worth this year, what true Hereford sires make the thickest calves? I know that most of your Hereford steers that show are not 100% Hereford but have registered Herefords that could use thickening up a little.

    Show quality and depth

We just had our county fair. Last years champion was a no brainer. He walked in the ring and the heavens opened up. This year it was much closer and deeper. It seemed as though you could have parked a small car on top of most of the steers they were so thick. I don't think that the winner could...

    Breeding after aborted calf?

I have a heifer that just aborted her calf. I know what the recommendations for waiting after a cow or heifer calves out but did not know if the same guidelines would apply after losing a calf. She was somewhere around 5 months along. I am going to try a give her one more chance before shipping...
