we are 12 X 12 and has always worked fine. I will positively let them calve outside if the conditions are right as well.

    Drought in Central U.S.

Certainly not giving up, just trying to be proactive and start thinking about potential options.

    Drought in Central U.S.

Spring is getting closer and I'm getting more and more nervous about pasture. I'm curious what kind of moisture situation the rest of the central U.S. is in? We are facing the possibility of having to get rid of a sizeable number of cows...and just want to start figuring out how far from home...

    Simmental coat patterns

I've noticed, in the last 3 to 4 years, many customers are interested in more and more white chrome in breeding cattle....both bulls and females.  Our chromed up ones the last few sales have sold extremely well. Had a 3C Macho ET calf 3 years ago that we had in the cradle, ready to be...

    Durhams for Denver

Last year I walked through the jungles pen, I thought he was known as a functional breeder of bulls. I have to be honest, what I seen floored me. A bunch of small framed clubby looking yearlings with absolutely no performance. When your fat as a tick and struggling to have a 1000lbs yearling...

    Admission of Defeat

We've all had that cow.... Equally disheartening is the cow that has one really good one to start off, then after that her calves are subpar.  Keep thinking she'll hit that homerun again, but just not happening...  Hate to get rid of her as I'm sure the next one will be the super one!

    College Football

I agree with some of what everyone has posted, but certainly don't agree with everything anyone has posted!   Understand what I'm saying???   :) Hope everyone has an excellent Thanksgiving and enjoys some college football...it's approaching the end. And, Go Big Red!

    College Football

Gonewest...can't disagree with your comments....would elaborate by saying that I think there are quite a few teams (not just SEC teams) that could beat ND, especially if they come equipped with a pretty good offense. Remember............................the team playing, perhaps, the best in the...

    College Football

gotta throw my $.02 in.... Read yesterday that Notre Dame's vaunted defense has only played 1 team with an offense statistically rated in the top 50!  Perhaps that is part of the reason they look pretty stout, which I agree they do...Their offense is certainly not a juggernaut.  As an...

    N/C youth football?

I"ve coached my son's baseball team for the last 5 years now.  It always amazes me how few parents even offer a thanks.  Last year, of the 15 kids on the team, I think I heard thank you from maybe 3 or 4 parents.  It has taught me to thank (numerous times) the other parents that coach my...

Totally off the wall question here...

I thought I had the dilutor deal figured out years ago, until it became apparent that a dilutor gene could be carried silently (not expressed).  Such as the the case mentioned by lean beef where a dark red parent bred black can have a grey calf.  In addition, we had a curve ball to the whole...

Any thoughts on Red Simmental Bulls out there

Very limited sample size, but I like our Beefmakers.  The handful of Top Gun's that we've had are just not pretty enough for me.

Best Angus and Simmental bulls to make showy females

We like BC Lookout on the Angus side.  On the Simmy side...many bulls fit that description.  Three top baldies that immediately come to mind are Steel Force, Built Right and Dream Catcher... All Dream On sons.

Our first fall calf (and embryo)

One of my favorite calving season statements.... A live bull calf is much better than a dead heifer calf! We used to always hope for heifers too, but now I'm totally content with any calf that is up and healthy! What donor is the little fellar out of?

    Black baldy simmental bull

When I think of baldies, my first thoughts are always Steel Force, Built Right and Dream Catcher. In our experience, Steel Force and Built Right breed very similar.  Built Right will make them as soft as any Simmy bull out there.  Steel Force might just add a touch more marketability. Dream...

What does a 8-9 year old cull cow bring at market?

Central Nebraska market last week...older cows in average condition... Avg. wt.  1226    $72.06 Cull bull Wt. 1710            $96.75 Cows were about were I expected...thought the bull might be a nickel higher...
