Need Some Tips for No-Fit show

when we do blow and go shows, we do just what the name implies. We literally blow and comb the hair for about 45 minutes with the occasional coating of pink oil or final bloom. revive also helps to "thicken" the hair when your blowing. The more you blow, the more the hair will fluff. Good luck...

    Need to add belly

Walks alone steers usually have that issue sometimes. We really like feeding cottonseed hull pellets. They really add depth and they keep the gut working really well. Give him plenty of hay, too! Goodluck.

    one thing you could change

This isn't a judges comment, but I still thought it was funny... In senior showmanship in the very first class at a local show, the judge asked the kid what he would like to change about his hog. The kid told the judge, "I would like to make her longer so she can have more (inappropriate t work...

    Keeping a steer eating

thanks guys. We have tried another feed but he still eats mediocre. I'm gonna give him a few days though and try a new feed if he doesn't like this one. Davidsonranch, could you please elaborate with the yeast? That sounds like a good idea. I am too far away from a Surechamp dealer but I can try...

    Keeping a steer eating

I have one month to go and my calf has really slowed down. He is pretty well covered but i don't want him to get stale, especially in the last month. We have a guy who is a state grader who is my neighbor, and he said my calf would grade choice - today. However, he went from eating 20 lbs a day...

    Low cost fat cover supplements

We have used small amounts of corn oil in the past. You drench a bit each time you feed depending on their weight, and it puts a smooth cover on as well as healthy skin and hair. Some people don't like doing this, and it is a bit easier to just feed rice bran! I personally do both. Also, if you...

    HAIR QUESTION

That sound like good advice, thanks! I rinse him on a regular basis and have used the shedding comb and he has been growing some tough new hairs (They are a pain to train!)

    HAIR QUESTION

Its getting hot! My steer is losing most of his hair, however, i would like to keep some for the fair. Is there anyway where i could keep a little, especially on the legs and the tailhead etc., but not worry too much about the body? Not many people in my county keep hair and my calf doesnt need...

Best way to brace a lamb

I stand them up on their back legs as far back as they can go. Hold them by their heads and push them back. They wont want to fall backwards so they will push fowards. Then, slide them down your leg into a brace. They sure will brace hard!!

    Pumice stone/grill brick

This sounds really dumb, but how do you use it? and are there any other ways to get rid of dead hair? my show is the end of july but my steer almost has a body full of dead hair. I'd like to get him a new coat! I also dont have a cooler, just a lot of fans. Thanks in advance.

    Steer not Eating.

thanks everyone. We figured out the feed was way to finely ground for him, it almost looked like a hog feed. He had been on it his entire life but i guess it started to get caught in his gut. Now he's eating a loose feed with mainly flaked corn and rolled barley. We also gave him some probias...

    Steer not Eating.

My steer is only eating about 10 lbs a day at most. He should be eating about 20. Our fair is the end of july and i dont know what to do. He stays in the stall under the fans all day and he is let out in a gravel pen at night. Does he need to be let out on grass and get more excersise? If anyone...

    Leg Wool

I was just curious whether blowing out and carding leg wool helps "train" and grow the wool. I show cattle and i know rinsing and training the hair is imperative, but for lambs does it really make a difference and does it help the hair? My second question was about feeding. My lambs are on a...
