Hi, JTM, sorry I do not have a shorter chute.  I have a couple of steel chutes, but I would like to hold onto them.  I appreciate your interest though.

Dave Shane trims hooves, too.  I believe that he still lives in Fostoria, Ohio.  His website is shaneshowcattle.com.  If you are not familiar with him, his cattle have won the Ohio State Fair numerous times.

Wanted -- Show Chow Weight Circles --$20 per 100

The purpose is clear: Get more Show Chow items.  I am not going to copy the circles by the way.  I am afraid of the Show Chow Secret Service.  Plus, I just wouldn't do it.

Free Fitting and Clipping -- Quad Cities Iowa/Illinois and Surrounding Areas

Hello, I was raised on a 200 acre hobby farm in central Ohio, and I grew up showing cattle.  I spent the last few years fighting my way through engineering school and, then, law school.  Now, I live in the Davenport, Iowa and work as a patent lawyer.  Now that I am out of school, I would like to...

    Winter show - clipping question

I am not an expert by any means, but I used the Andis 5/8" blade on a heifer's neck last weekend.  That blade seemed to leave just the right length of hair.  Plus, because it's blocked, you can press it right onto the calf.  Good luck.

    Clipper Blade Questions

I was watching the Kirk Stierwalt clipping video, and he uses what he refers to as a "bevel blade" on his Andis 2 speed clippers for clipping the neck.  Is a "bevel blade" the same as a medium blending blade?  Additionally, he also uses a 3115 blade on his Andis Progress clippers.  Does a 3115...

    Movement and Soundness 101....

Brad, could you explain what you mean by "talks with their head?"  As I understand it, a calf's back should remain in a natural position while on the move.  But should the head move slightly up in down, or should it remain vertically still?  Thanks.

    Louisville Steer Show

I quickly counted the show sheet, and it looked like there were around 60 steers.

    Louisville Steer Show

As some one noted above, Jeff doesn't live in Muscatine (as I had originally said).  He actually lives in Preston, Iowa, but his Thanksgiving sale is in Muscatine.  Preston and Muscatine are fairly close to one another -- I'd say about 45 minutes apart, maybe less.

Jeff Paulsen (I think) is behind the reserve champion steer.  He lives in Muscatine, Iowa.

    Grooming Chute Questions

I am looking into buying a new grooming chute.  For market steers, what length do people recommend 7 feet, 7.5 feet, or 8 feet?  Also, do people recommend aluminum or a steel/aluminum hybrid?  Finally, how well does the Sullivan board with padding work (runs around $125)?  I am worried that...

    Fitting Seminars

I know that this isn't in the classifieds, but this is the perfect string for those looking to learn more about show cattle.  Last night, I posted my Chuck McCullough DVDs on eBay.  Chuck's DVDs are really helpful, and they're a bit more affordable than Stierwalt's.  I am asking $34.99 a piece...

leave it on or take it off

Dave Guyer leaves his halters off.  Otherwise, you train your calves to pull and lurch when there's tension on the rope.

    Will Online Sales Last?

Online sales are where it's at.  I love looking at the pictures and the videos, but even I admit, I'd never buy one without seeing it in person.  Likewise, I'd say most other bidders have also seen the calves in person.  Like ZNT said, it's really dangerous buying a calf based on a video or...

Best set of calves for sell in Indiana right now!!!

I haven't looked at any cattle in Indiana, but the best calves that I've seen in Iowa were at Goretska's and in Wisconsin were at May's.  In Ohio, which is where I grew up, Shane's always have calves ready to compete at all levels, and they're great at helping their customers.  The best set of...

Too much Navel does it get ya?

You can also dig at it with a show stick.  By doing so, the calf tends to suck it in.  However, this method sometimes draws attention to the problem and, thus, backfires.
