    Thoughts on these Bulls?

They are looking good Brock and are continuing to develop well and are presented in these pictures in very honest condition. It appears that  Red Commander has more to offer than just calving ease and an out cross pedigree with the data that has been collected so far.The Red Commander son that...

    A couple deep Canadian bulls

I stand corrected Coyote.December 19 1944 3:37 pm central time  ;D [born in Iowa].That white bull looks like he could have come out of the Teegarden herd in the 1940's.

    A couple deep Canadian bulls

I can't tell you the exact year Coyote, but Aluana Collynie was born in the early 50's.I have a double bred grandson in the tank that was born in 1958.The sire of A.C. was pretty stacked up to King Collynie Jr. Your bulls look good.

    Canadian cattle

Good discussion and contributions by all.It is amazing sometimes where these topics lead.I believe the breed needs to be known for what it can offer the commercial industry and then fine tuned to meet the needs of the various environments by breeders in those regions.I agree with Matt that a...

JT Moreland Farms acquires registered mature Shorthorn herd from A&T Cattle Co.

Great news Josh! You got one heck of a test drive too, speaks volumes that you purchased them.

You might try contacting the Morrisons at Eionmor.I remember seeing a picture of that bull there. They still have a website up with their contact info.

How low is too low when selecting low birth weight bulls? from Cattle Business

All measurements of performance are meaningless without the context of a contemporary group. If all the cows are in the same environment, managed the same, bred to bulls of the same type and genetics, and all the inputs can be averaged equally across the group,Calving interval and %body weight...

Old Shorthorn Genetics still in use

Medium Rare, the heifers will be bred to x4212784.They are consistent however I can pick out some suttle differences that tell me what cow they are out of.If there was a pen of a 100 instead of 7, I wouldn't even try to differentiate.

Old Shorthorn Genetics still in use

My primary goal for Double Brute was to reinforce what Frontline and 4508 are doing and strengthen the influence of his maternal grandam x4068690 who was also the dam of my Pioneer 108 bull. This years calves were all out of 4508 and Frontline daughters and I would say he is accomplishing those...

Herbourne and the dam of the dam of Sutherland Titleist

The red bull is Willingdon from the Alexander McClaren Neralcam herd in Ontario. This was a Milking Shorthorn herd with phenomenal milk records especially for the times. One of his descendants maybe even a son was Neralcam the Great who was an active herd bull in the Simpson herd until he was 17...

    Innovator

In answer to your original question of what influence was behind Columbus. He had about as much milk production bred into his pedigree as a Milking Shorthorn could have prior to the introduction of the Illawarra. His sire was by Lafraise Duke 3rd who was strong in Flintstone breeding and out of a...

Shorthorn Impact 2015 - My thoughts

The feedout data is important to gather on several levels and I have been involved with Tri State feeders whenever I can put a min. of 5 steers by one sire together.I would not get too excited about a sire groups performance until he has repeated that performance more than once. There are so many...

Shorthorn Impact 2015 - My thoughts

This months Drover's Journal speaks to some of the things that Duncraggen and the Librarian have touched on.I would strongly recomend reading the cow herd related articles in this issue to any Shorthorn breeder seeking the commercial market and compare those trends backed by hard numbers to your...

Shorthorn Impact 2015 - My thoughts

3 eagles, after reading your last post I am surprised at your bull selection. It flies in the face of everything you just finished saying.

Sue, I think it was more of the fact that the duals were not eligible for registry in the ASA at that time and after that it was probably the 250.00 per head fee to register them. I was at that picnic you mentioned as Wolf Ridge McLeod was on display. The thing I remember the most was John...

My first experience with Wexvale was in 1974 when on the recommendation of Clarence Forgey I went to the herd of George Reichelt where I purchased the foundation to my Princess cow family. This was a small herd of about 20 cows most of whom were daughters of Meadowbrook White Coat 3rd.I only saw...

Shorthorn Impact 2015 - My thoughts

If you are referring to the dna tests mentioned in Dr. Hunsley's article here is the story on that deal.Just about everyone had at least their herd sires tested for the 2 star marbling deal. Then if we wanted to stay on the cutting edge of the beef industry we were told we needed the next panel...

Shorthorn Impact 2015 - My thoughts

Thanks for posting that GM.The line that hits you in the gut is where he states that if birth weight is not fixed in 10 years the commercial market will be lost forever. After you factor in that there are a few breeders breeding for lighter birthweights so we have cattle now at the other end of...
