We're not talking about the straight crippled legged club calf heifers.  I suspect there are a LOT of TH carrier heifers that end up in commercial herds.  Say someone is breeding for clubbies for their kids and/or neighbor kids.  Kids grow up, so they sell the heifers (now cows) to a commercial...

R1, that's actually the point.    Impressive breeders were the same way in the Quarter Horse industry.  The results of his breeding far outweighed the negative effects of his HYPP defect....in THEIR eyes.  It was a win at all cost philosophy...  Yes, I understand this is SteerPlanet....but...

I don't know why a person would even comptemplate passing on a genetic defect in the first place, especially if the odds are so good that the results would be negative!!

Yep...get that auger out of them!  (clapping) I am not crazy about the front half...but I think the flaws in the back end are caused by the picture angles.  Good top line, lots of hair, and I think I would like the rear IF I'm right about bad pic angles.

LOVE the calf with the orange ear tag...and the black/white directly underneath!!!  The rest look like sheared lambs with their clip jobs...LOL  I'm not making fun of them.  It's just cute to see them blocked at that age..  :)    Nice calves!

Did you raise the calf?  Yes, ribbons are nice, but definately NOT the most important thing.  I never won Grand or Reserve wtih my steers while showing (I did have a lot of success with breeding stock though), but I want to share a thought with you...    I am a pretty successful business owner...

I certainly do not intend to start an argument, but as I am sitting here reading on TH and PHA genetic defects, the question just keeps poppinig up.  Why do people continue to breed genetically defected cattle?    I've been involved in raising Quarter Horses for years now, and the QH industry...
