    Opinions on mating

A friend of mine has a good Simmental cow sired by Dream On that they want to flush to an Angus.  I've got some Saugahatchee semen that we talked about using.  Anyone have any experience with mating these genetics?  How marketable would the calves be?  I suspect they would be easily marketable...

    Easy Calving Shorthorn Bulls

I've had really good luck with Captain Obvious.  No calving problems out of cows or heifers.  As far as being able to show...I took a 6 month old Captain heifer to the TN Beef Agribition this year and she stood Reserve Champion.

    Hip Height- Fair Classes

For years our county fair divided classes by hip height then a few years ago changed to dividing them by weight.  I can see an argument for both.  Obviously with hip height, it would be easier to compare finish on steers of the same frame size in each class.  But dividing by weight automatically...

    Sitz upward offspring

I have a 3 yr old Sitz Upward Daughter.  She is pretty easy keeper...not fat just stays in good condition.  She's raised two good calves for me.

    Exiss vs 4 Star

Can't comment on the Exiss because I've never really looked at one, but they look nice from a distance.  I've owned a 4 star for 12 years.  I can't say I have any complaints about it.  It's held up great and still looks like new after an acid wash.  We've used it to haul show cattle and around...

    Generator question

It seems really cheap for one that size at least.  I may give it a try.

    Generator question

Does anybody have any experience with New Holland generators? http://partstore.agriculture.newholland.com/us/9000-watt-gas-generator-p1845584.html  I believe the same generator is branded Case IH as well.  I was picking up some parts this morning and saw a brochure on them.  The owner said he...

    angus cattle (take a look)

Nice Calves!  It's been years since I've heard anything about Bushs Montana Truck!  I almost bought a heifer sired by him when I was in college.

hoover dam on first calf heifers

I have calved out 2 first calf heifers that were bred to Hoover Dam.  No problems with calving ease...they just popped right out!  One of the calves is probably the heaviest muscled bull I have in my yearling bull pen.  I've got another heifer bred to him due this Fall.

    breeding a shiver heifer

3 calves sired by him so far -- all born unassisted.  One heifer calf out of a Shorthorn heifer that was about 70 lbs.  Just sold her at the TN Agribition & she was reserve ch.  Another heifer calf out of an Angus heifer that was 65 lbs.  And a bull calf out of a Shorthorn cow that was 82 lb.

BC LOOKOUT bulls we raised and your thoughts....

Lookout can downsize his calves quite a bit.  I just sold a finished steer sired by Lookout that I would have loved to have kept a bull--he was just too small.  (Good structure, muscling and a great look)  I think he dressed out at 527 lbs and was finished really nicely.

    month old calf problem

We have good luck combining a three day dose of Baytril with a dose of Long-acting penicillin for respiratory problems.  One thing you don't want to do is underdose.  You won't do any good for the problem but you may cause some resistence to the drug.  Always, when in doubt, consult your vet.

    Steering a bull calf...

We cut a 6 month old calf two days ago with no issues.  He walked like he was a little sore yesterday, but today he is back to normal.  Just be sure to spray the area for flies if they are a problem.

    Help with a crazy steer

A friend of mine told me about this product.  http://oxyinfo.com/zen/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=23_26&products_id=104 She said she tried it on a bull she was halter breaking and it was the best day had ever had working with him.  Like your steer, he was just a nervous calf.  She just...

    Black Angus Bulls

Connealy Confidence has been a consistent  low birthweight, calving ease sire for us this year.  I asked Tom Burke his opinion on which bull (from my stock of calving ease sires) to breed my heifer to for the Tennessee Beef Agribition sale this year and Confidence was his choice.

    Cattle Apps (iphone, android)

Cattle Visions has a calculator app.  You can enter a breeding date and it gives you the calving date or you can enter a desired calving date and it gives you the date to breed. Simple, but kinda handy.
