    Barn ideas

Just a suggestion. Last barn we did when we wired the lights we wired in receptacles one for every two lights. Most fluorescent and led lights now come with a cord. Light goes bad unplug and replace. It is wonderful.

    HELP!?

That is true. Has she had a calf unassisted? Did she push at all? If she won't do her part cowboy_nyk is right. I would sell.

    HELP!?

If you really are not concerned about calf value I have a couple of guys around me that have calved out over 100 heifers with not one assist. They used longhorn bulls.

    Flush Opinions

You might look into Crimson Tide. The couple of calves I have seen out of him were super sound and turned out to make really good market steers. One won our local fair. Just a thought. The owners said the calves were in the mid to high 80's on bw.

We are changing our herd away from Shorthorn

That is great and I do agree that most short horns are not hard calving. In my area almost all the shorthorns left are being used in club calf operations. Most of these do not care if they pull calves. Some don't even care if they cut them out the side. There are some big calves out of Angus as...

We are changing our herd away from Shorthorn

In our area anything but black or black with a white face will get docked at the market. I personally like shorthorns, or at least the ones used in commercial herds. The problem here is lack of quality. Most of the shorthorns I see in this area do not finish well on grass. The ones you see at...

    Breeding Suggestions

If you want to stay simmy with show potential and the semen is available sexed I would look into In Dew Time. Last I knew they had sexed semen on him. The calves have show potential. I do like Hobart. I also really like the Comfort Zones. Tailgater is a simmy that has some potential also. A...

    semen freezing

Zimmerman's in Pennsylvania have a $300.00 minimum and $2.10 per straw after 150 straws if you take the bull there. If they come to you it is so much a mile one way. It is $300.00 if the bull freezes or not. I would call them or Great Lakes for up to date pricing. Two dollars and some odd cents...

    Embryos in Virgin Heifer Recips

I did it once and won't do it again. I highly recommend using cows. Heifers will be heifers.

    Club Calf Bull

Since you are wanting to convert your herd to a commercial herd I agree with the comments on simmental and on the angus. I highly recommend NLC Upgrade or a step up for PB Simmental, or if you didn't mind going back in time a little or a little slop in their front ends Nichols Legacy. There are...

    Club Calf Bull

That is a tough question. From the bulls I have used Hairy is one of the few that would work commercially. The calves were moderate bw around 80 lbs and they grew well. You will have trouble finding a true clubby bull that could be used commercially. There may be some pb shorthorns or maines...

    Skunk

This is what has worked on my dog.  2 gallons warm water, 1 bottle peroxide, 1 cup baking soda, 2 table spoons of any dish detergent. It works well. On the cows you may want to rig some sort of sprayer.

    Discbines

I recommend going with the brand that has the closest dealership. or at least the most customer friendly one. They are all good machines. I prefer nh or kuhn. As far as curing I like the rolls on high quality alphalfa and the flails on grass hay.
