    Simmental Opinions

Montecito will make them pretty, but they lack grow. They make good cows later, but just take a long time to catch up with their contemporaries... I have not used QuantumLeap, but have seen him person. I, personally, would not use him based on what I saw (I know, he won some shows). He has a...

    Junior National cost

The Simmi nationals are about the same; $75 for the kid and $45 for each heifer entered.

    Lutalyse question

IF she has not cycled, the lute will do nothing. In that case, I would put a CiDR in her for 7 days, then pull and give lute. There was a recent article put out about shortening up your calving window by using the CiDR/Lute cycle 21 days after calving to get the last ones cycling quicker...

    FireSweepRanch, Hooks Broadway questions

Great question, but each one I have had has sold before weaning, so I am not sure. Optimizer sure puts a nice shoulder on one, but he is a 3/4 blood (just FYI). American Pride puts a good shoulder on them too, but they have a bit of spook in them. My next Broadway will not come until...

    Just some bull, lol

GREAT! We have 6 females in production now, and all have picture perfect udders and doing great as a 2 year old. The red bull calf with white face I have pictured is out of a heifer sired by him, and the pair is fantastic! All heifers calved from different AI sires (Live Ammo, Broadway-2, Uno...

    Just some bull, lol

Optimizer seems to frame up so far. Our November is bigger than her dam already, and she is just over a year old! Now the second question is a bit tricky! I like them both, for different reasons. Iron hide puts bone and mass on them, but they are a tick straight in the hock and shorter necked...

    Just some bull, lol

Love them! Our favorite calves by far. Our fall yearling heifer will take some banners this year I am sure, and that bull is super nice. Here are a few pics I took today of him. That June bull is already 1050 pounds, and the yearling heifer (Nov) is at about 1100. She bred on her first heat, and...

    Just some bull, lol

Thank you! That Upgrade bull sold in the first 48 hours after I posted him online. He is going to TX on Sunday. Upgrade sired cattle are always easy to sell, and I keep all the females in my herd. Love them in production!

    Just some bull, lol

I took a few pictures of our spring bulls this weekend. I thought I would share. Both are for sale, since we do not use live bulls in our program except in extreme conditions. The first two pics are of an Upgrade sired bull, April born (so 12 months). He weighed 1330 on Saturday. He is in the...

Uno Mas and a few others!

This is one of our best Uno Mas sired calves, he is a January out of a 5/8 blood first calf heifer who is sired by a Lock N Load x Aubrey's Black Blaze bull and dammed by a WMW cow. So a little club in her, and she is very thick. She is a May (so calved at 20 months), and already bred back (to...

    Determining ET calving date

Simmentals base gestation on 285 days. Based on heat (-7 days from implant)the calf would be due April 2nd. Likely a bull, since it is a few days late....

Some of W/C Red Revolver's first calves

He does not seem to be throwing much white on the face, huh? I just got my Lockdown, and forgot to get some Red Revolver.... maybe next order. Thanks for keeping us up to date on pictures.

    Remington Lock and Load 54u

Genex collected him, and they have some of the best semen out there. I have pocket thawed their semen and my conception rate is not changed. I am lucky enough to have purchased the LnL semen from Genex, and have 11 straws left....

    WINC Live Ammo

We had our first Live Ammo calves born this week. (http://genex.crinet.com/beef/index.php?action=DETAIL&code=1SM00158&lang=EN) The first is a heifer, dammed by a half blood Upgrade cow who has had lots of babies. She was 74.6 pounds and 273 days gestation. She is the black (grey) calf pictured...

    Hooks Broadway

I have. Last fall, at our fall sale, there were two (large) breeders that said they refused to use him. They had been told about several breeders that "had to cut the calf out of the cow", and predicted his numbers would drop drastically when the new EPD's came out. I then talked with another...

    Hooks Broadway

We had one in the fall, 49 pounds, a bull at 283 days gestation (out of a heifer). We had a cow in the fall have a bull calf, 72 pounds, 287 days gestation. We sold a bred heifer that had one a few weeks ago, a heifer calf, not sure of the weight but she had it on her own. We had a heifer here...

    SAV Resource 1441

I found out at the Genex meeting in Minneapolis this week that Renown is backordered a few weeks (2-4 they said) because he is not collecting as well and there is a high demand. But they have filled the orders quickly.

    Bad attitude bulls

I'll second that, and add Broker (which was already mentioned). Both sires throw calves that are just plain hard to break, want nothing to do with people (head up and across the pasture), and not fun to work with.

Uno Mas and a few others!

Had another Uno Mas calf Wednesday. This heifer is a May, so 20 months old. We had her bred early because we did not want to deal with breeding during show season. We had her pelvis checked by the vet to make sure she was OK to breed a little young. She has some clubby in her (WHW is her...

Uno Mas and a few others!

Our first one is due next month, so I have not seen any yet. I am excited to see how he does here. I have heard of the bull you linked above, and like the cow family for sure. He looks a lot like Iron Hide in his picture. I have seen Iron Hide in person, and he is even deeper than his picture...
