which bull to make show heifers

Lincoln & Bandwagon look the best. They have more to their body than Revival appears to have. Good luck on the pair~

    MELATONIN DOSAGE

For just a 900 who bolts and breaks loose, I'd give a good 20 ml (aka 20 cc) and check her reactions. If extremely groggy, lower dose. If still spooky, increase. Could take as soon as an hour to work or as long as 3 since she'll have to digest. In the mean time it'd be worth teaching her she...

    Best location to hang fans

If those are your only two options, behind might be best. The wind will mess up the hair and it's in your best interest to do nothing against the hair. From behind, it may mess with the rear but will keep pushing on the ribs. Good luck!

    Breeding suggestions

Quite a variety there! The grey girl looks real nice through her bones and body, but her hooves kinda look like they point in such a way that say her backs are bowed and her fronts are splayed (or are her claws just long?) She looks a little compact though. I'd find a nice long bull that isnt...

    Mainetainer showing ?'s

If I'm thinking right, this whould make the calf 1/3 maine? The range of % that one can be registered mainetainer is 25% min to something large like 75%. You can show as one but as a heifer, of course you'll need the reg # but as a steer, it may not be worth. Might look too much like a shorthorn...

    AI Questions

I've always wondered how the AI system works. I know how semen and embryos are collected but how do producers store them, especially in large scale? Do they have their own liquid nitrogen or is a company hired? If you know about it, let me in the loop! Thanks!

    building new barn

It's only worth if you show/sell haired calves. Even then, it depends. Location, location, location! Obviously the north needs it less than the south. Good luck and have fun grooming some hairy beasts  (lol)

    Steer in need of fat?

Well I can garentee he aint no dairy boy. Full blown bred for beef as a Maine. This is HLSR we're talking about! Texas!  ;D You WILL know the difference between the dairy and the beef at a big show like this. I've actually never heard of holestiens being used like that. That's gotta be one of...

    Steer in need of fat?

Yeah they had it online & at the nearest store (last time I went a few years ago I reliezed it wasnt a show animal place. Greenhand year, what can I say) but I'm actually really confident in this liquid. It made him bloat but to sum up my experience thus far: it's like paylean but for fat &...

    Left over fat steers

How much are they willing to pay is my question! If this is a garenteed thing, I might have one just after the 21st of this month. He is a 5/6 maine out of the Irishman and is going to Houston soon. (transportation can be worked out) If he doesnt make auction and the price is right, this steer...

    Steer in need of fat?

Go figure the feed store is out for the month! No one expressed interest in it so they didnt order any last time and personal requests take 2 weeks I have a gallon of Golden Flo and will be working up to 12 oz over the next few days. It's 90% fat so if this doesnt do it, I dont think the rice...

    Cow calf pair dilemma.

That's too young. It's immune system might not be able to handle the stress and bacteria at the show grounds. Now if the show is still a couple months away, go for it. Stalling is a bit different. The traditional side by side could get a young / small calf squished even by it's dam. Too easy...

    Feeding Full Tank

Bloating shouldnt be a problem but it's purpose could be confused with the actual medical issue. It expands in his guts to puff out his sides. The label says no more than 2 lbs/d max. I whouldnt go above that. Since you said your planning ahead, this means you havent started the steer yet & have...

    looking for a creep feed

Per calf crop, my ingredients change but I always have a base of whole soybeans and cracked corn. Soybeans are 40% protein and high in nutrients while the cracked corn gives the calf easy access to the energy.

    Steer in need of fat?

Unfortuently in less than 20 days! March 19th is show day, we check in on the 16th :( He's on self feed in a way. I give him a full bucket of feed per feeding and have found about a pound left when I return so he's eating as much as he can stomach. Good find on the rice bran, we're going to the...

Our latest calf (pic heavy )

Cute little thing! With some luck he could class simmi possibly. The last pic looks like he's got a good volume to him so far!  ;D Hopefully we can have a look when he's weaned?

    The Irishman?

My Irishman steer had a BW of 91, WW just shy of 500 lbs (was crept, weaned at 5.5 mnths), and was sold to me at 7 months old over 600. This bull will add plenty of bone, clean up a calf's front, shorten those legs, and gives a good base to work with on terms of ribs. I've seen his offspring's...
