    Video: NWSS Angus Bull Show

I am not aware of any Knabe.  I have always wanted to go to the steer show in FW, and every single year...something comes up.  I don't believe that the FWSS will permit any streaming or broadcast of the shows.

    Best return on investment?

Embryos. $20,000 isn't even enough money to get you started in the bull or semen deal.

10 days out til a sale. Last minute tips? Show rite swell ?

I am not a fan of changing anything with 10 to go. Just leave a day early so you have time to gather them back up.  Feed them whatever has gotten them this far.  You just don't have enough time to be messing with anything. Just my opinion.

    What is everybody else witnessing?

It's an illusion. These things are getting SO stout again.  The Champion and Reserve in KC appeared to kinda fit what you are saying, built low to the ground, not real pretty necked, etc.  Then I searched out some pictures of those 2 from earlier in the season.  They were both long necked...

    Fresh and Feminine Question

Steve is right, it is as good as anything. You are right by addressing this BEFORE it gets bad.  Down side, once you start them on it you have to keep them on it until you are done showing.  It works, but is is not cheap.

I believe you are right.  AJ (shocker here) you can really rub someone the wrong way.  Hell, you have rubbed me wrong a time or two. The pain and suffering that you have apparently caused Knabe is of monumental proportion.  You have rubbed, stepped on, kicked his dog, called his mama names, and...

ranchers look to build own meat plants

There is one currently under construction in Western Nebraska now.  Cattle Feeders and Ranchers put up $100,000,000 to get it off the ground.  Very exciting time for these business people.  I am hopeful that the consumer will embrace the concept and perhaps be willing to spend a little more...

    Online Sale Season Has Started.

Ya, that was crazy. I saw Charlie Wilson averaged $21K on his sale.  Not 134 head, but that's pretty impressive anyway.

    Online Sale Season Has Started.

Showcattle Connection is another good one. Tod Caldwell used to be a partner is Caldwell Willoughby and went on his own to form Showcattle Connection.  He doesn't have the volume of sales that Show Circuit has, but what he has is pretty strong.  Primarily (from what I can tell) he has the...

Steers at the Iowa State Fair.

HIA is getting stronger and so is Rodgers. I can't remember the last time Goretska got shut out at the Iowa State Fair.  Maybe some of those were Rodgers/Goretska sold?

    Growing hair

When you get one that is not blessed with a lot of hair, change your focus. Do the things you are saying, rinse, cool room, all of that. Focus on the quality of the hair you do have.  Make sure that it works well.  Yes, you would like 2" of hair, but 1/2" of really good working hair is way...

    Show Bull selection

I agree.  By the time you get the genetics figured out and start raising some good show quality calves...the kids will be done showing.

    Show Steer Weights

Generally, it is 5% either side of the declared or weigh in number.  If a weight card system is used, and you turn in a card at 1,400 then you have to weigh back between 1,330 and 1,470.  If the actual weigh in weight is 1,400 then the same applies. Not all cattle are weighed back.  They...

    Show Steer Weights

Finished Weight or Show weight. Show weight would be in that 1375 range as others are saying. Translation on 1375 is 1445 on a weigh back, and about 1480 before shrink.

    Performance enhancing drugs-cattle

I don't know how you could tell if you were a judge, especially a haired show.  The showring rewards "extreme", and it is just more of the same and more and more and more! Side note:  if you want to find the steer that the judged doesn't believe passes the smell test...look in the 3 hole.  That...

    Performance enhancing drugs-cattle

This is an interesting topic.  I don't know on the bull side, but this is what I am seeing with steers. Before I go into the context of my post, I am saying right up front that I am absolutely not pointing a finger at anyone.  My post may encourage people to look back at pictures and see what I...
