    clone question

By what standards are people calling one better than the other. Genetically they are identical and have the same chance of passing the "good genes" onto their offspring. Semen quality is the only way they would vary and they have to meet required values on motility and morphology to be collected...

How do you feed your show calves; On the ground or raised trough?

I attended a clinic last april put on by Bob May and Weaver products and his personal two cents was to always feed out of an elevated bunk. His reasoning being as your animal begins to grow many a times to reach the feed off the floor it will start to spread open its front legs leading to...

    Heifer breeding age

Ive heard heifers reach sexual maturity around 1000lbs and also heard around 1 year of age. Obviously it varies a lot by breed and other conditions and I think those where made as a blanket statement. I have always aimed to hit both conditions which usually puts me at 14 months old at time of...

    Hauling Rates

I would agree that you would probably be looking at 300-400 per head. I just had one brought out from NE to CA and it was 350.

    Beginner Clipper Question

My personal opinion would be to start off with a refurbished set of agc 2 speed. They are a good set of clippers to learn with and can adapt to many situations just by switching the blade out. Not sure what type of blade they offer and small clippers such as the age or even the show edge for...

    Help. Steer not gaining.

Yes you are correct it is an associated feed. I will talk with my dealer and see if he carries Show-fill. If I add the show fill as a forage should i continue with free choice hay or get rid of the free choice hay as cab suggested?

    Homemade Cooler Room

wouldn't your typical floor be a concrete slab with some form of a bedding built up on top of that? What type of insulation would you do for a concrete slab? Im thinking of how to convert an old room in the barn to a cold room. Its a concrete slab floor with poured cinder block walls. would the...

    Help. Steer not gaining.

I am from northern california. I know beet pull and whole oats are easily found near me. not sure on the CSH. Are you saying to build a dairy cow style ration with hay silage or fiber component  mixed in with the grain instead of feeding free choice hay?

    Help. Steer not gaining.

I know its cutting it kinda close but I need him to gain another 400lbs over the next 100 days. below is posted his grain composition. Is there anything i should add or change that would help him keep up his ADG? Like I said earlier he eats about 30lbs of grain a day and free choice hay...

    Help. Steer not gaining.

His temperament is very good. he is the most docile steer i've ever had. my 3 year old nephew walks him without any difficulty so its not from his high temperament. Im hopping it is just a lack of water intake.

    Help. Steer not gaining.

I started weighing him in the beginning of January and have weighed as close to every 3 weeks as possible give or take a day. I get the scale i use from the local ffa chapter so access varies a little. I just have the three weights starting at 600 to 675 18 days later and 700 21 days later

    Beginner Question! :)

    1) If you can find someone who will let you practice clipping on their cows that would be great practice but if all you have is access to your own animal then practicing on it will be 100x better than just reading and watching videos 2)When searching on craigslist and similar sites for...
