    1st calf of 2013

Chaco's (Red Angus) first calf is here, 82 lbs out of our biggest & heaviest BW cow so I expect lower weights on the rest (pictured at 6 days old).  Easy-born & up nursing withing 20 minutes.  Sorry about the quality of pics - I hate my camera, or it could just be the photographer!  Next up is a...

    Our girls

Don't really need to have them slam-dunked, we know they have faults, but would appreciate constructive opinions.  We were so happy to FINALLY have some SH heifers born here instead of bulls.  Haven't been clipped or fluffed, just rinsed & brushed.  One is 04/11 the other 07/11.  Thanks.

    Thanks to Steerplanet

I recently had a big calf born which started going over at the knees on about day 3, getting so bad that it hurt me to watch him walk.  Soooo, I used your fabulous search feature to see if anyone had posted a similar problem.  Lo & behold, our beloved Red had posted the same situation a few...

    Clipping

Ok all of you folks with WAY more experience than me (which includes anybody who has ever turned on a clipper)...I've heard different opinions & need your advice.  If you are trying to make a neck look longer & cleaner do you leave the hair the same length as the neck all the way to the inner...

    Good Luck at Denver

Good luck to all of you going to NWSS.  I must admit that I lived there for 5 years & really don't care if I never see Denver again!  Have fun & do well.

    Merry Christmas

Have been busy getting calves ready for Phoenix but wanted to take time to wish all Planeteers a Merry Christmas and a very healthy & prosperous new year.  Although I don't contribute much to the Planet, I have found it to be the most social and informative web site around and appreciate the...

    Bull are clean!

Hooray!  Finally got the test results on the 7 Red Angus bulls we raised & sell semen on ... THEY'RE ALL OS FREE.  We're still waiting on the AM results but I expect them to be free also.  Just sent in blood samples on our two new herd bulls.

    Red Angus Females

Due to no rain in the last 9 months & none in the near future we are forced to reduce our herd & are offering for sale a really good group of young registered Red Angus (& a few Durham Red) cows & heifers.  You can check them out on our website www.slash-d-three.com.  We've already severely...

    Any Planeteers going to Phoenix?

Anybody out there going to AZ National?  We'll be taking some of our Reds.  Wish we could take some of our Durham Reds but can't because of the show's 3/4 blood rule---darn it!  Would love to actually get a chance to meet some of you.  This site feels like family, even when we have "heated"...

    Just want to brag

Just want to post a pic of my grandson's 1st grand champion win - with his Durham Red heifer at the AORB show at South Plains Fair in Lubbock TX.  He's always had to stand in the shadow of his big brother at the shows and he loves this heifer so very much, so I have to brag!

New show at South Plains Fair

For anyone who is interested, the South Plains Fair at Lubbock TX has added an AORB show to its open breeding cattle schedule.  Normally they only offer classes for Shorthorn, Limousin, Angus and Hereford which didn't help those of us with "other" breeds.  This new show will offer classes for...

    How are the Iowa members?

Has anyone heard from road warrior or any of our other Iowa folks?  The floods are so terrible there I wonder how everyone is doing.  We're sitting here in country so dry & parched it's hard to comprehend the problems they're dealing with in the midwest.  I just hope they're all on dry ground.

What color patterns are your Durham Reds?

I'm curious as to what color patterns you all are getting on your Durham Reds.  Ours have mostly been "skunks", dark red with white bellies & sometimes little roan patches on the tail & head.
