    Cow losing teeth

Hi everyone! Hope y’all are doing well during these crazy times! Just bought a few cow calf pairs. Some were 8-9 years old. Found a set of teeth in the feeder this morning. Online it says cows won’t lose teeth until 12 years of age. Please take a look at the pic and let me know your thoughts...

    Lucky and Italian Stallion

Does anyone have any pictures of calves/yearlings sired by FAIR Lucky? Are his birth weights reasonable where his heifers would make good replacements? Thinking about using him on a few 1500-1600 lb, purebred Simmental cows. Any thoughts or pictures are appreciated!

    New Simmental Bulls

Primary Candidate - I saw him in person and he's very impressive. Really flexible, outcross pedigree! A daughter sold at the PA Fall Classic and she was above average for sure! W/C Fully Loaded - Always safe with a Lock N Load son from Wernings. Great Cattle! Best of luck with the Shell...

    Opinions on Simmental Bull

Thanks. For the record that is the seller’s trailer, not ours! His front feet are the thing that concerns me the most. They turn out slightly. Is this a big deal or common?

    Opinions on Simmental Bull

Hi, I'm looking to hear the positives on negatives on the sim bull i just purchased. We are just getting into the show game and want to learn more about what to look for in an animal. Please feel free to give critical feedback if there is something you do not like about him! We just want to...

    Improving Pasture

Good afternoon, One of my goals for 2019 is to improve the yield in my current pastures and build a few more pastures so my cattle can graze for a few extra months each year. Current pastures do well but have a fair amount of weeds that really start taking over after the cows graze down the...

    HA Cowboy Up 5405

We just had our first HA Cowboy Up calf last week. He was born unassisted at 82 lbs. Got right up and started sucking. He's growing like a weed and we are really impressed with him. His mother is a baldy Simmental out of Ruby's Wide Open. We plan to use Cowboy up on a few Simmental cows again...

What's on the ground so far?

Here is a one month old heifer out of a WLE Uno Mas first calf heifer. Her father is our young herd bull who's Yardley High Regard x HPF Delightful. She's stout, wide based, and has lots of hair. Birth weight was 70 lbs.

    SSC Shell Shocked 44B

Shell Shocked is Hetero Black. If he is bred to a red cow the odds will be 50% black/50% red for the calf.

    3/4 Angus 1/4 Simmi Cows

With all of the good options in the Angus bred. I'd suggest selecting a Angus that has the traits you're looking to add. If you plan on retaining females find an Angus with good maternal traits. Retain the 7/8 AN and 1/8 SM daughters and cross them to a PB Simmental bull. In our herd we keep PB...

    SSC Shell Shocked 44B

Lucky enough to purchase the first Shell Shocked daughter to go to auction at the PA Simmental Spring sale last Saturday. We planned on purchasing a different heifer from Greg Stewart, but were blown away by the width and structure of the Shell Shocked. I've attached some pictures. She makes our...

Stayability and milk. Has there been any studies?

Good topic. There was a study conducted by a grad student from Colorado State. The study looked into environment as well. The study wanted to know if cows with high milking ability would last longer in areas with good nutrition vs. areas with average nutrition. The study did not find a...

    Ideal Yearling Weight for Heifers

Thanks for the advice! I'll give her a few chances at AI. If she doesn't take after a few tries i'll cull her. I guess i should look at the growth as a positive. I just never imagined i'd be breeding heifers at one year of age.

    Ideal Yearling Weight for Heifers

We recently weighed our replacement heifers to report their yearling weights to the Simmental Association. One of our girls weighed 1,126 lbs on the day before her one year birthday. I've always heard to breed heifers around 800-900 lbs or at 15 months of age. I'm concerned with how quickly...

Hi, can you give me more information on how to check actual birthweights through the simmental association herdbook. I've been looking through the web and cannot locate this feature but i would find is extremely useful! Thanks!
