    Fall Born Show Steers

I had trouble loading pictures to the classifieds a while back.  Found out I couldn't do it from my IPhone and I couldn't do it on my PC using Mozzila as a browser.  I switched browers to Explorer and it worked like a charm.

Help me choose a bull, Style vs. Insight

I am using Insight on some clubby black cows trying to make some steers and good replacement females.  I think he will work better than Style for my purpose.  Actually, you may want to use Brilliance, the sire of Insight, since his calving ease is so much better and you are breeding a heifer.

    Using Buford on heifers

I used Buford on a Pump Daddy heifer to calve last year as a two year old.  She is a smaller framed heifer but she had a nice solid red heifer that probably weighed around 65 lbs on her own.  I sold the heifer as a replacement heifer and the Pump Daddy bred back for another calf.  That is just...

    Huff N Puff

Keeping this one a bull. He is a Huff N Puff out of a Frostproof cow we bought from Kris Black 8 years ago. He’s on the grass side of the fence for a reason: he was gaining 4 lbs a day on the other side.  Big nutted and gentle enough to ride (well, almost). Will be ready this fall to service...

    best simmental bull

Fortune 500 is an old bull that would work on that heifer if you can find the semen.  He needs to go on a deep bodied cow but he puts a pretty front end and smooth shoulders on them.  I have used him on Simmental heifers with no problems. I have one straw that I'm saving for a special situation.

    PHA or Nay?

I don't see how it could be from a genetic prospective.  The heifer has not been tested but both sires used are PHA free.  Since PHA is a recessive gene both parents would have to have the gene for it to be expressed in the progeny.  None-the-less, the calf has a bull dog head and shorter than...

    PHA or Nay?

I have never had a PHA calf so I am not sure about this one.  It is out of a Yellow Repo X Mono Heifer and sired by either Size Matters or Smoking Joe (I bred her to both bulls same day).  Both bulls are listed as PHA free. It was born this morning 5/16/18 but wasn't due until September 15th. ...

Is heifer too short to breed?

I'd be more concerned about the width of her pelvis than her height.  Some clubby heifers just weren't designed to be mammas.  It would be worth having your vet check her if you are concerned about potential calving issues.

    Bulls don’t live long.

Lots of reasons why bulls are listed as deceased...they become infertile; are crippled and can't be collected; bad attitudes; lightening.  Or, they are heavily collected then salvaged and the semen is promoted as being in limited supply from a deceased bull, lol.

    Opinions of fall 2016 heifer

Nice, sound looking, big bodied heifer.  Should make an excellent cow.

    Red Rocky

His flank looks fine to me--just some white in color pattern.  Maybe a little photoshop.  Has anyone seen this bull in person?

    Which Simmi Bull?

There is an old Simmental bull named Fortune 500 that I used on some Angus heifers.  He is a little shallow flanked but nice fronted for a Simmy.  The calves were really balanced and nice fronted out of him.

    Pregnant First Time Heifer

Sounds like she is in good condition.  Do what fish94 says.  Grass/hay and minerals until she calves.  Then give a supplement with some protein.  If she gets extra protein before calving, it will go to the calf and add birth weight which you do not want with a heifer.

    What would you do?....

I would band him if he is an older steer.  Less stress and no blood.  Just be sure an give him a tetanus shot.

Calf Born with Intestines Out- Anyone Have this?

I've had one calf born with the same problem.  My vet said the calf would not survive.  He died couple of days latter.

    Solid Gold heifer

Nice, stout little heifer with lots of potential.  Good luck with her!

what is working well with walks alone cows and monopoly cows

I agree with Show Stopper 95, that No Apologies is a good choice.  Also, Yellow Repo and Crimson Tide.

    FU MAN CHU breeding question

I think we works really good on tanky cows that need a little cleaning up.  The cows need to have lots of body.  The calves I have had are structurally sound and walk good.  His calves are more consistant than my MAB's have been.  Calves have come easy with moderate birth weights.

    feeding a show bull

It depends on whether you want to use him as a breeding bull after you show him.  If you feed him like a steer he may have problems when you turn him out to breed cows.

    Smokin Bob

I have had very good luck with Smoking Bob.  Mine are clubby but sound.  I have used him on moderate framed cows and the calves are good but I think he would work on larger framed cows also.  Just make sure they are good cows!
