Are there dairy steers at your county or state fair?

My county has a class offered but no one shows.  Last year one girl showed a bull and heifer bottle calves and they just put them in beef class because she's like the only dairy person to show in a long long time

Some random thoughts for new cattle breeders

Breed to your standard of perfect.  Not everyone has to like it.

Red Bull? Is he worth showing?

Reno...just go show!  Have the good time and see how you come out.  If you win you win, if you lose at least you tried and are proud of what you raised.

    Twin Bull Calves

If you think twins are bad, we had a set of triplets at work a couple weeks ago. (i work at the dairy at kstate).  2 bulls and a heifer.  They all 3 could've fit in a feed sack.  Less than 50# each.  Surprisingly they were some of the best eating babies, up and ready for it...would have to say...

Heatwave still king, wins another major N.A.I.L.E 2012

I haven't shown sheep @ Louisville, but they are working on the problems.  This year they implemented a rule saying a vet or other professional would be in the make up area inspecting lambs and that there would be random drug testing...don't know if it happened, but frankly give any market...

Heatwave still king, wins another major N.A.I.L.E 2012

DNA testing on horses for registrations doesn't take long at all, normally just a couple days after the lab receives it.  I wouldn't think this type of deal would take much longer

Damn Proud in Louisville On display

Is he as post legged as he looks(at least to me) or is it how he's standing?

    internal marbling

Typically, the higher quality grade you have the poorer yield grade.  This only to a certain extent, but still fairly consistent

    Starving cows

Call your county humane society, just call the cops about it, does KS have something like IL does-hooved animal humane society.  You would probably have to go on the state level to get anything done.  I know in IL the dept of ag has the investigators and they do even the smallest large animal...

    Master of Puppets-Mature Photo

I'm not a fan of clubbies either especially the ones pictured in 4" of hair, but wowers!  He is definitely a nice one, can't wait to hear calf and calving ease reports

    Sullivan vs. Weaver fitting products

I love the weaver dairy adhesive! Use it on my horses for a great all day hold.  Sadly they discontinued it.  Also use the lamb conditioner, propink, and purple shampoo.  Cheaper and way easier for me to get.  I don't find much difference in the lamb conditioner or shampoo.  I never used pink...

    Showtec Supplements!

I fed show bloom once, but  I am switching from blending my own show feed to buying kents premixed.  That has it already in it.  So you know if they are a powder or pellet?  Seems like nothing likes to eat the powder supplements.  I don't wet feed either. Too many to mess with that

    Showtec Supplements!

What are your opinions on adm/moormans fire extinguisher and natural fill??  I am looking into it for lambs next year, but just checking here as I may use it on a calf too. Has anyone used either of these?  I feed Kent currently, but the moormans supplements are more affordable.  And I will not...

    Show Ring Bling????

Since we are bringing this back, I'll go ahead.  18, show a calf here and there, show sheep(primarily breeding), and horses on all levels.  I will be the first to say the amount of top coverage depends on the judge.  There's only a couple I will hike the tank top down a bit for.  Otherwise...

To all those during harvest season, PLEASE BE CAREFUL!!!!!

Prayers sent!  Also, please be very cautious with hay rides!  Heard today the son of a family friend fell off a wagon during a hay ride and passed on impact.  (They said he snapped his neck hitting the pavement.)  Please be careful!
