Can a steer that weighs 930lbs gain 70 lbs in three days? Can steers fluctuate by 20-30lbs from day to day?

Are you taking into consideration weighing at the same point after eating and drinking.

Yes weighing a steer after it has drank and ate on a Tuesday evening and then re weighing it Friday morning after it was fed. Can an Angus steer put on 70 lbs in less than three days? I realize it's not muscle but rather water weight.

The animal was weight on a Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning weighed and put on 40 lbs over night. Then re weighed Friday morning and by then supposedly gained a total of 70 lbs in less then 3 days. Could this even be possible without unethical practices?

i've shrunk down steers 150lbs before in the old days.

so much so their skin was wavy.

was quite the trend back in the day.

it's to make it easier for judges to place animals that look 100lbs more than they should against an animal that isn't shrunk as much, if at all by entry level competitors etc.

Trends are always changing that's for sure. Have you ever heard of a steer putting on 70 lbs in less than 3 days to make a minimum 1000 lb to be in a auction?

Water weighs 8.34 pounds per gallon, if your steer had not drank prior to weighing him, and then drank before you weighed him the next time 10 galloons could make a 80+ increase, We always weighed the same time of day (Sunday evening) to try and get a consistent weight. Prior to fair when we were trying to hit a weight we would weighed a calf first thing in the morning and then in the evening after he had been in the barn tied all day, they cold drop 60 pounds in 12 hours. In about an hour they picked it up again after eating and drinking.
