I am try to get a better handle of the majority of our users.  I was having trouble with my blog taking for over to load and it motivated me to try to get all our load times down for steerplanet.

Broadband - Cable, DSL, T1, OC3 or faster connection

Dialup - 56k or slower, using a phone to dial out your connection, not be to confused with DSL.

Dial up here. It takes pics awhile to load (the more and/or bigger the pics, the longer it takes).  Short video clips (under a minute)w/o audio are usually possible if I'm patient, video plus audio - forget it...

How about the planet itself, like just looking at the main forum?  Any speed issues?

No, the forum itself works pretty well (better than most other forums I visit).  The only problems tend to be with a page with lots of pictures - usually it works, just takes a little while, but occasionally it'll time out before the page ever even opens.  It seems to work best for me late at night, when (I'm assuming) my ISP is carrying the least traffic.

probably helps real late at night when less people on our server too.

The ad images and logo, get cached in your directory, so after the initial load of the site for the first time, they are stored for fast reference.

I did cut the load time way down with lots of improvements and we do have it so it should just preview an image when posted.

The only time I really have a problem is when I try to reply and all the icons have to load. That is more then likely an upload/download issue with the satellite though since it works fine at the office.

Typically I have the same problem, but tonight it seems as if SP is in overdrive.  Everything that I have done tonight has been going at hyperspeed.  Maybe SD was able to infuse a little alien technology into SP.

On a little more serious note, great job on speeding up the site Jason.  It's nice when an owner/moderator cares about not only the board, but also the people that are using it.  (clapping) (clapping) (clapping) (clapping)

Jason.....we receive our internet wireless off a tower about 10 miles away, and I've never had any trouble that I remember.  I have discussed this topic before with others....wondering just how many are on dial up, so these results are very interesting.

I appreciate your ability and attitude with the job you've done getting this project off the ground and soaring with your own personal touch!....keep up the great work. Brad.

We were able to switch from dial up to a high speed connection thru our local telephone co-op last year.  The package also came with digital TV, all over our phone lines.  Sure do love the high speed and getting RFD and all the other channels.

I just checked the hook up speed with  http://www.speedtest.net/
This is a free online speed test you can run to check your connection.  We were at 2956 kbps download and 486 kbps upload.  Does it get much faster with a rural hook up?

Your much faster, especially on the down load side.  We have the fastest package our provider offers which I think is advertised at 3 megs.  Would sure be nice if we could get faster up load speed for sending large photo and video files.  But we get along pretty good after having dial up for so long.

We are on satellite. They regulate our daily download usage. If we go over it's horrible. Can't even use the computer. Take 24 hours to reset and run at normal speed, which isn't that fast. Would love to have high speed cable access!

we use satellite too. Sure beats dial-up when 1/2 the time we couldn't get anything. No limits thank goodness!
