Cool Room

What is a good size for a cool room?  I was thinking about building one and want to make sure that I don't get it too big but yet make it big enough.  I have small children so I am just getting started and we will have 3 heifers this year but will eventually move into to larger projects.  I was thinking somewhere around a 12'x12' to a 12'x16'.  Thanks for your advise!
