What kind of cows does he work on? I have mostly Maine/Angus and Simmy/Angus cows. I really like some of the females i've seen out of him. Already have some semen on him. Would it be worth breeding my cows to him?  -mike

cowboy cut is a carrier and his offspring have a pretty hot disposition...EXT style.  he will make them small.  if you have some squatty thick cows with not too bad of a temperament, he may be ok.

you do know he is a PHA carrier don't you?

yes I did. Are you saying i shouldn't breed to him? I guess i really don't understand the full aspect of PHA. I understand the calves are born with life threating defect that can also kill your cow. Other than that, i know nothing about it. Thanks for your post. -mike

its not life threatening, it is certain death. cows need c sections for that mess too. plenty of discussion in this forum about it

I liked the calves I had out of him.  They were a little hot headed like they said.  Just use him on clean cows and test the offspring.

We used him 2 years ago when that 1 blaze faced heifer sold thousands of units of semen, and the thing that I didn't like was that we got a buckler out of him out of a very structurally sound commercial Ext cow + his did throw all different types of calves for us. We did not have any goofy dispositions out of the bull, in fact I can get my hands on all 3 heifers that are out of him out in the lot and they have not been halter broke. I'm with Gidget on this one, use the semen on clean cows and test or breed any replacements clean. No big deal. JMO. Brent

if you use him make sure the cow is clean. I've only used him once. The heifer produced a nice Ali calf this year I heard. No bad temperment issues here but her dam is a sweetheart.

What are the chances of having a deformed calf? Chances of having a carrier?

if you have one carrier you have a 50-50 chance of the offspring being a carrier but alive.
I might need help on the next one, lost my marbles way back. 2 carriers: 50% clean, 25% carrier & 25% chance born dead or deformed.
