What is everybody's definition of a finished animal? Better yet, show photos of a calf you consider finished, and tell me why. I am curious to see everyone's answers.
The first steer is probably an ideal finish in my opinion. Any less, and he would not be finished by my standards.
The black steer is about as far as I would push it. Any longer and he is going to become incredibly lame...if he isnt already. At this level of finish he is carrying quite a bit of fat. Some feedlots dont let a steer out of their lot that isnt as fat as this because they are feeding and selling on the grid.
Man that black steer looks tasty. I would define finish as the weight at which a calf is the most marketable, has the most product for his size, and can still move freely. This weight would definitely be different for many animals. I like to run my hand done their top line and feel them little ripples of fat.
