Well, fall is certainly here with the cold temps at night here! Our days are in the 50's (about 10 degrees cooler than normal) and nights in the low 40's. They say we might get a frost on Thursday, so the end of the grass growing season for us! We are only feeding rounds to the horses right now, and I hoped it would be later before we started hay for the cows. Everyone is saying it is going to be a COLD winter this year! So far, they are right!
Here are some pics I took. The first one is our Club King embryo heifer. She is a March, and we bought the embryos from Jeff Miller. The dam is his good 3/4 Dream On donor, and a maternal brother sold in The One Denver sale this year for $10,000 (LMJJ Impartial), along with a maternal sister sired by Werewolf that was a top seller in his Online sale last year. We have put in three, and have two live calves on the ground (the other is a fall bull calf, AWESOME bone and muscle!), with the third embryo in a cow for March. She is a REALLY nice female, and we are definitely keeping a hold of her, with my middle daughter getting to show her next year. Our other Club King female we sold in the Spring State sale this year, as a wet two year old nursing a nice Grandmaster bull calf, for $3000. Since we already have a bull and heifer from this mating, and two more embryos in the tank still, we have decided to sell the recip carrying this pregnancy in our Fall Harvest sale, in Springfield in November. The recip is an OUTSTANDING Trademark cow, with a pretty white blaze face. Her flush mate won a bunch for Brad Stork (Macy). The only reason my daughter is selling the cow is that she has a really nice March heifer, red with a white face, by the recip cow and I forced her to sell SOMETHING! Our numbers have gotten too high, and our oldest daughter owns the most animals in the herd so she has to sell a few. See has to decide what she is going to consign to our spring sell still.
The second picture is a little April Movin Forward heifer calf out of a first calf heifer (Amigo x Hummer cow). She is a bred and owned for the oldest daughter, Rebekah. She will get shown this year too, just not sure by who  ;D.
We had three nice embryo bull calves, sired by Dream On, Built Right, and Club King. All bull prospects, all look great. Now comes the time to decide which fall cows get to carry embryos and which get AI'd. Always a tough decision around here, since most of our cows are AI sired cows that have fantastic calves of their own. But someone has to raise the embryos!  ;) I let the kids pic which cows they want to put an embryo in (they get to keep the calf if it is a heifer) or AI. That way there is ownership when the calf is born, since they picked the mating (I have lots of choices of eggs, from Steel Force, Broker, Dream On, Lock N Load, Built Right, Club King and more!). Makes it more fun  (thumbsup)
Last, we started the meds today to flush our good Bling cow. We are flushing her to Combustible. Excited about that mating!
Happy Fall everyone. The colors are just gorgeous out here...
