I have a first calf heifer that I am thinking about flushing. My question is how well a flush will work since it is just her first calf ? She was 30 months old when she calved and I am feeding her 10 # of 14 % pellets a day and good mineral. Should I go ahead and try it or would it be better if I wait till after her second calf ?

I think it depends on how she is doing raising the first calf & how good it is. If she is worth the money, I see no problem in flushing her.

It just depends on the female...we had a heifer that calved in the spring as a 2 year old, we rolled her to the fall and flushed her.  She produced 31 eggs, 17 fertilized and she bred back for a fall born the first heat.  I'm sure the extra time we gave her helped out some, but it was still more than I would have expected from a first flush.
