Got a call from dad Friday afternoon, he said that a heifer was showing signs of going into labor. I thought he may have been overreacting to her acting like that, or maybe even a false labor, I live about 40 minutes away, so I needed to get headed that way to help if there was a problem. Normally I wouldn't question what he is telling me, but this heifer was AI'd and not due for 22 days. He called back and said he saw hooves so I high-tailed it south to get there. Luckily she had the little heifer by herself. I was worried about her being alive when I got there, but was pretty astonished that she was already standing. Weighed in at 56 pounds. Went back and checked my dates to make sure I just didn't miss the due date, but nope, she came 3 weeks and 1 day early and other than being tiny, seems to be doing exceptionally well.

Thought I would add a plug for Ar Su Lu Massive 3140. He is the sire of the calf. This is the 2nd calf we have had from him, both out of heifers. Couldn't be happier with them, both came unnassisted, and were up and after milk within a half hour. Last years heifer grew plenty and turned out to be a quality calf, this one seems to be something that will be marketable as well.

I like your decision using Massive or Osage-the original Byland Goldwalk(CA 1990) and ensuing generations of golds MADE-Waukaru,Lovings and alot of decent cattle-AND EVEN THOUGH SOME OF THOSE BREEDERS wouldnt consider anything clubby etc etc-that breeding -which goes back to Enticer-who was basically a maine-really works-and somehow went from cow killer territory(back in the day) to some of the most commercially viable ones out there. YUP-gonna ask you to see another calving ease deal with a good bit of maine-on my post-I think hed work, the hiefer calves are just way beeter than the pics-which look like I took them O0
