Well all my family's hard work over the summer months paid off this weekend.  My son and daughter both showed their heifers at the OKC state fair Saturday and both won Breed Champion (judged by Jim Bloomberg).  Unfortunately, they don't have a supreme champion at the show, so we don't know how we stand with other breeds.  My daughters QDog heifer, first pic below, was the Commercial Chianina champion and my son's heifer, second picture, was the commercial heifer champion.  They both are registered chi influences but I didn't want them to compete against each other, so the young heifer was shown as a commercial heifer. The young heifer is the IAL heifer I posted on this site a month or so ago that I was trying to sell. the judge called her a powerhouse.

The best part of the show was seeing my young son react to a difficult situation.  For some reason when he tried to adjust her stance during the breed drive, the heifer head butted him and he fell down.  He got back up, stood on the halter and set her back up and acted as though nothing happened.  If someone would have ever told me this would happen in the ring, I would assume my son would lose his cool but he handled a difficult situation probably better than I would have when I was his age.

Thanks LHB Farms and rackranch for the kind words.  We really like them.  The QDog heifer has changed so much since the day we picked her up/bought her.  What caught our eye was her front end and squareness of her hip.  We can't wait for our next show, in a three weeks, Tulsa State Fair.  I know it will be extremely difficult to come close to accomplishing what we did this past weekend but we will give it our best.
