I have a 7month old heifer. She is a crossbred beauty. She puts up a fight for the halter and wont walk for me. I am a 16yr old girl. Shell walk ish for my dad and uncle but not me. I have tried a tractor but she has a incident with that and wont go near one now. I tie her up everyday and she still wont walk. What do I need to do to get her broke and walking and show ready?

Pulling with a tractor is about the worst thing you can do. Now, you have a heifer which doesn't trust you. Start at the beginning, food and water. Tie your calf low, and take her water and feed. Talk while she eats. If she will let her touch you, rub her, comb her as much as you can. Let her smell you and hear you voice as much as possible. Take away her food & water, but leave her tied so she can get up & down. Don't do anything else for at least 3 days.

Below is a link to an article on the SP front page. You should check there for more information. Take your time and NEVER use force with your heifer. Soon you two will be best friends

Knabe can also give you some great advice about Halter control.

You need to be the one working with them not your dad or uncle. The one thing I have figured out is they will respond to the one that is around them the most. I agree with aaok go slow and start over. I am a girl too. Still wish I was 16 tho lol. I break everything we have so I know what its like to work on one. Spend time with them become her friend again. I am guessing she has figured out she can get away from you or that she doesn't have to walk for you. When you get her trust again start in a small pen where you can hang on to her maybe even stall size. Just dont give up.

We have pulled them around the yard behind the cattle trailer. Does the trick every time.  ;)

describe the process by which you would work with her slower to get better, longer lasting results.
