There's a school of thought that either an injectable or an oral may do a better job on some of the worm load. It may well be a sales tactic too.I don't know for sure. Everyone will have their own thoughts about what is best. PPL?

All wormers kill worms about the same unless a resitance has built up. It really depends on how fast they kill them.  Oral work fastest usually within 24-48hrs then injectalbles take another day then pour on may take up to 6 days.  The faster the kill less worms shed onto the pasture.  If it takes 6 days for a wormer to get a good kill thats 6 days worms are being deposited onto a pasture after worming.  Ive seen cattle have more worms after worming then they did before they were wormed!  The feed company I work for does worming trials for our larger producers and the results using a safegurad vs ivermectin pour on are pretty drastic in comparison with safeguard having a much stronger kill 21 days later.  From what ive seen oral is the way to go.

To answer your original question Ivomc plus injectable kills liver flukes while Ivomc injectable and pour ons do not.  But pour ons help with lice, flies, and  manage while the injectables do not.

Hope this helps

New studies show that injectible wormers works better than pour on.  Also, ivermectin is less effective than cydectin since it has been around longer and resistance is higher.  And, the generic ivermectin products have been proven less effective than the original ivermectin product.  This was as reported on Cattlemen to Cattlemen show on RFD network.  My vet confirmed this information so I have switched to using cydectin injectible.

The biggest difference between wormers is which parasites they target.  While most pour ons have some efficacy on external parasites such as lice and mites.  Some studies show a smaller lever of affect on external parasites from even injectable Ivomec.  True  Ivomec probably has more widespread tolerance because it has been around longer, but the important thing to remember is to rotate wormers so you dont build tolerance within your own herd.  The biggest mistake in my opinion is chosing one wormer and using it everytime you deworm.  Also remember that most dewormers dont target all stages of the parasites lifecycle.  So if you have a heavy parasite load you may need to worm several times to kill all the eggs, larvae, and adults.

I use an injectible in the spring because it's supposed to be better at killing stomach worms. In the fall i use a pour-on to keep the lice at bay as well as the worms.
