Lemme know what you all think of her. I think she's a bit better than the heifer I showed last year, and they're 3/4 sibs...  Also, if someone wanted to remove me, the halter, and the showstick from the pic, feel free.  If you wanna blur the background too, I wouldn't mind  O0

She's an April Perfect Timing x Hoosier Hot Shot (Maternal sib to my Sonny cow).  She's 3/4 Shorthorn, but can only be registered 1/2 because of her color.  She was Res. AOB Prospect heifer this last weekend at Farm World Expo.

i think she looks a little on the green side now but she looks very good. i think she will turn out quite nice. she looks like she has enough depth of middle right now and she should only continue once she is fed harder. i'm not sure how tough that division is out there but she looks like she would be competitive.

Thanks a bunch.  She IS really green right now, but I hate getting heifers too fat.  She only gets about 5/8ths of a scoop of grain per feeding, and she's been weaned about three weeks.  She's put on frame instead of condition in that time, but by the time NAILE gets here, she should be looking pretty solid.

i agree. she should be fine especially coming off a weaning and still looking that good. i don't like to get my heifers fat cause it fills up their mammary glands and they don't milk well. but, they like them with some condition on them so what do you do?

Yeah, it's a catch 22 type of thing.  This heifer's mother and aunt, and 3/4 sib all had the problem of being  easy-doing to a fault, so it would really surprise me if we couldn't get this one fat enough.  Kind of a good problem to have, they're easy on the feed bill.

I think you should ship her.....to a place where they have cheap corn and plenty of pasture!!! (like my place!) Naw, on second thought, she wouldn't fit in here!!!

She is a nice heifer and I totally agree with the fat thing!

Her dam is a really good cow.  She's a little course in the shoulders, but very good everywhere else.  This calf is smoother shouldered and I wouldn't mind owning her.  ;)

Nice heifer, good clean front, nice middle, just needs some wheaties, but we need to remember these are Prospect calves, they are supposed to be a little green at this
point, she is developing, that is something that I personally struggle with, especially with these show calves, they are all wanting them FAT right now and its hard to
really see a future with some of these calves that are just plain FAT, its nice to see them be a little green.  Good Job.  She just needs time.  Maybe some filler top dress would
help her out some too.

Thanks again everyone...Justamom- I forgot to add that she is getting 3/8ths of a scoop of beet pulp along with her grain.  We're going to start feeding her more now that she's been weaned and what not, she can finally start putting some of that grain to use, rather than just have it run through her and get her feeling sick.

Have you tried that Kent filler, we really like it and the calves love it too.  I like it better than beet pulp

This is what Kents web site says about it, Im not pushing Kent cause as far as show feeds go we use Showmaster but this stuff is good

First Rate® Winning Fill™

First Rate® Winning Fill™ is a multi purpose cattle show feed to help start calves on feed and keep calves on feed under stressful conditions
First Rate® Winning Fill™l is a unique blend of timothy hay, alfalfa hay, steam flaked corn, steam flaked beans, Kent First Rate Baby Beef 24, and molasses.  This attractive blend encourages cattle to start on feed or keep eating under the most stressful conditions.
First Rate® Winning Fill™ should be fed daily at the rate of 2-6# along with a grain mix to keep calves on feed and encourage feed consumption.
Adjust amount fed of First Rate® Winning Fill™ at shows to achieve the desired amount of fill
First Rate® Winning Fill™ is the perfect feed while transporting calves to and from shows and sales
Enhanced show bloom!™
For show heifers First Rate® Winning Fill™ will work as the sole ration to maximize center body dimension without making heifers over conditioned.
Feeding rates will vary depending on the desired body condition and targeted

When TJ and I went to Houston, we fed that stuff to his calves and they did really well on it.  I wish someone around here sold it, I would definitely give it a shot.

We get it direct from Kent, and our local dealer orders it for us.

Could you PM with maybe how much you guys pay for the winning fill in bulk?  I just looked, and I guess two of the close feed stores are kent dealers, but I don't think they carry the winning fill on hand, but I'll check tomorrow.

FYI, I think I paid $13 for a 50 lb. bale.

We've been using this stuff instead of beet pulp.  I absolutly love it.  Seen some feeding it at state fair as a complete ration...I sure in heck cann't afford that but I like it for a top dress.  Now at shows it works great filling them out.  I feed it straight day of show.  Makes them really fill out and makes them thirsty as all get out.  It even helps get one back on feed at shows we've found.

Our Kent dealer gets us what we need.  He tries to keep a bale in stock for us just in case.  He gets a truck weekly so its not a big deal.  We couldn't afford to go a semi price on it.  I think we pay $13-14.

The Winning Fill is fortified with Show Bloom, but my question is approximately how much Show Bloom is in the 50 lb. bag of winning fill?  Anybody know?  I asked the dealer that sold it & he couldn't really give me an answer.
