Judge my steer

I was wondering if any of y'all could tell me how my steer looks and what I can do to make him better. I have about 4 months left with him. This is my senior year and also my last steer, so I'd like to go out with a bang. If you could help it'd be greatly appreciated. Thank you  (cow)

put a neck sweat on him.  that's probably too old school for people these days.

his thick neck makes him look shallower to me.

I am newer to steers but I would say give him some depth supplements.

Feed him all the finisher and grass hay he will eat from now until the day he shows (make any feed increases very gradual).

Get a neck sweat on him, pull out 2 lbs feed and replace with 2 lbs beet pulp to help bring that flank down a bit. Give him all the hay he will eat.

Okay, thank you. I live in Florida, so it's pretty hot here and I've read that the neck sweats can make him loose his hair, so would that still be a good idea??

Try only using it at night and making sure to rinse every day. Continue to work your hair

As far as feeding him I would not cut his grain at this time, he needs to keep putting on weight. I would keep him on full feed, 3% of his body weight and add some Stabilized rice bran to his feed, to get some finish on him, work him up to 2 pounds a day. If you can get oat hay or a 3-way grain hay it will help expand his stomach. He looks like he has plenty of grow left in him, a lot of times the flank will drop when they stop growing and start fattening up.
I am assuming that your goal is the finished product (fat Steer) pour the feed to him, work the hair and I agree a neck sweat will help.

A neck sweat will ultimately just help refine the look of his neck and keep it from looking too chunky. When I put a neck sweat on my animals it's only in the day time. You can get neck sweats from Sullivan supply for about $40 I'm not sure where to get them any cheaper. I have also seen the method of wrapping their neck in plastic wrap although I do not recommend that method. Ultimately you just want them to sweat the excess fat off to give their neck a better look to them
