Ok....in need of your opinions.  How do you feel/think limi females fit into a club calf operation?  I have a chance to purchase some limi females.  Do you think they can cross up well with the clubby bulls of today (i.e. Heatwave, Sunseeker, etc.)?  I know some say they lack substance of bone or hair.  Any opinions are welcome.

Speaking from EXPERIENCE, (actual experience from MY pasture), I think limis blend well with the clubbie stuff. Limis do lack hair (and since that is an economically important trait in the clubbie world) that is a challenge, but as far as true thickness and freedom of movement, I do not think you beat a limi. I personally think half bloods are best to raise that "show calf". Some bloodlines work better than others, if your interested PM me and I will help all I can.

Good luck, with cattle prices they way they are, now is the time to buy!!

I think Limmy's definitely have their place or will in the future.  Today's Limmy is a whole new generation.  I have a small reg. herd of Limmy's, but do not plan to go clubby on them, just Lim-Flex, which is a Limmy X Angus cross being 25 to 75% Limmy.  Check out D'Hanis-Aelvoet Cattle page.  They have some pics of Limmy cows on Heatwave, Friction, Johnny Walker Red, and Naughty Pine, just for some examples.  They have one most influential females in the breed right now, Amy Jo DHAN 20L.  Good Luck, if the price is right, I'd sure buy'em!

I think if you crossed up some really powerful Limmy's with a slick fronted, "clubby" Angus bull (Northern Improvement, Hot Rod, Lutton), you could get some killer clubby mommas to then use those composite bulls on.  Just my thoughts, I don't breed them, but I sure do appreciate a good Limmy female.

I know Dan Sullivan has done well with some Limi x clubby crosses. Heatwave works well. I have some Limi females bred for fall calves. Monopoly, Golden Child, Naughty Pine. We'll see.

I have had real good luck with both purebred Limi's and LimFlex females.  Also am starting to have some good results going the other way, breeding these clubby females to Limi bulls.  The last two years my top selling calves have both been halfblood limi's.  I believe it also allows you to utilize some of the more fringe type clubby bulls - those that maybe don't pack quite as much power and substance(read non TH and PHA carriers) because those limi females will give you the pop and muscle.
