We are so excited for this years summer Olympics. There are so many lessons that can be learned from the athletes, and parents of these athletes.  Though not directly cattle related, I had to do a blog of how the Olympics affect our family, and that these same lessons can be carried over to the cattle industry, or anything else that we, or our children have a passion for.  Hope this inspires you like it does us.

my first memories of the olympics was of this guy

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abebe_Bikila

i remember seeing him with shoes on as my dad told me about this guy who didn't wear shoes.  64 he wore shoes.  then in 68 he pulled up due to an injury.

bud greenspan really knew how to do stories on people, unlike today that are focused on beauty.  they would focus on other sports back then and give you a better feel for the competition in those sports.  an art totally lost on todays producers and audiences.

Those are the stories that make the Olympics so great.  Heroism from all around the world.  Peaceful competition between some the biggest rival countries in the world.  1984 had the barefoot wonder of Zola Budd.  The unfortunate collision of her and Mary Decker tarnished somewhat the legendary 3000M race.  But it still all holds true to the realness of the Olympics.

Olympics are officially under way.  Opening ceremonies were awesome, and just amazing seeing all these nations in one place, assembled in peace.  Going to be a great 17 days of competition.

Thought opening ceremonies were very well done.  Didn't know what to think of the lighting until all those petals rose an d the fireworks were spectacular.

Will be tuned in tonight for the swimming.
