When looking to produce replacement females to grow the herd, choose from the following:
Gigolo Joe
Hard Drive
Hard Core
Mercedes Benz (too young, thoughts?)

If anyone has other opinions on these bulls or others, feel free to chime in!

If i was making replacement heifers i would sure be looking at chill factor or cunia 602 eventhough he isnt out of cunia.  I have seen dam good females out of both of these bulls.  And chilll factors are proven.

Would also be looking at some simi influenced bulls,  SOS for one.  I havent had a bad one out of him and probably one of the best i have ever raised was born this year out of him.  Also backlash.  If he breeds anything like his brother whiplash.

I would recommend Gigolo Joe.  Several of our top females are sired by him.  This year we bred all our heifers to both Joe and Mercedes Benz.  The Benz calves came a little smaller and have  more of a "showy" look to them.  That being said as a whole the Joe calves blow them out of the water due to overall power and performance so far.  Very consistent and we are very impressed with them.  I would recommend both bulls, but I feel Joe is the better choice.

It seems like it takes forever to prove a bull's maternal abilities but if stacking proven cow families have any bearing, I would think those Hardcore females might end up being really good.

Telos, do your hardcore's milk??? When I think of building a herd milking ability rises to the top. I have a few hardcore's and honestly they about starve their calves. Don't get me wrong, good look and powerful would be traits I would describe them with, just not maternal.

As far as Benz, I'm not sure if you can answer the question of maternal power quite yet. I would say that benz's mother and both flush sisters have as pretty of an udder that I have seen on a Maine cow, so I would think that should be an indicator of some traits that will pass on. I definetly agree with McCartan the Benz calves have a killer look and come small enough that a herdsman can actually sleep at night. Our Benz calves have had great bone and plenty power. I know Bushy Park Farms has had some great ones this year out of him. I thought 3 of the best cow calf pairs last weekend were due to the Benz calves on side.

We have never bred to Joe, so I could not comment on him.

My list would likely include bulls such as Open Bar( Barb Ohlrich says his daughters will work), Maine Break, Witch Doctor, Chill Factor, and Ali.These are not all, and possibly not the very best, but would sure be on my list.
