I have read a few things about giving melatonin to calm a calf.  I even tried it years ago but wasn't sure on the dosage.  I have read on a previous post to give a fat steer 100 mg./day.  What about a 500 - 600 lb. prospect heifer?  Would the dosage be less and how much?  How long does it have to be in their system to see results?

What is the reason for the melatonin, hair or attitude?
For hair I would stick to the 100mg, for attitude, start with 60mg and adjust from there.

Added: After I posted I realized you had asked how long until there are results so I am assuming this is for attitude, If you fed it in the evening you should notice a difference in the morning, I would use it over a few days though before I adjusted up or down on the dosage.
