Looking for a good bull to use on show heifers to get a live one yet still marketable.  What does everyone think of their OCC Missing Link calves?

Tony,

I had a 110 lb calf out of Bleeding Purple 1st calf heifer last year.  I was really impressed with Missing Link at Vogler's Stud and thought he was better than Legend, however, with the size of that calf I will not use him again on heifers. Tim told me he might throw some bigger calves if you use him on crossbred heifers.  I have never had a large calf with Legend or Homer out of 1st calf clubby bred heifers.

the size of the calf definitely had a lot to do with the breeding of the heifer and Missing Link had a part in it as well.  Missing Link will  throw some size into his calves , depending on the breeding of the cow. Call Tim Ohlde and ask him how Missling Link mates with different breeds.  Tony mentioned breeding to a show heifer and I just provided my experience with Missing Link and my talk with Tim.

You should also look at Nighty Night.  We had three this year.  Two out of first calf heifers and one out of a second calf cow.  The calves come easy and have lots and lots of vigor.  They really get up fast and get going.  They seem to be growing very well too.  They are all pretty thick and have good tops.  One bull calf was 12 days over due and weighed 86, one heifer was one day late and was 68, and the last bull was one day late and was 80 lbs.  They were all born unassisted.
