It has been cold here in Central Illinois.

Our newest calf likes to hang out next to his daddy.

Once the weather breaks, I may have to come check out some of those belted calves. I fell in love with a dun belted at NAILE a few years ago and I've always wondered what I could make one look like.

I have a couple of heifers with hair about 4-5" long that you could literally carve out a calf.

Here is a pic of a heifer that is due about any time now.  This pic taken when she was about four months old and rough clipped.

I am expecting four purebreds and three others out of Angus(2) or crossbred (Hannibal x Heat seeker) cows.
Calves are small (about 65 pounds on average from Beltie cows) and vigorous at birth.

Sorry to ask this stupid question but is the "belt" hereditary? Like a Hereford's bald face?

First is Bullseye.    Born July 26 of last year.  Out of Hannibal x Heat seeker cow    Weighed 643 last Sat at about 195 days.

Second pic is of Ricky and Bullseye.  Ricky out of Angus heifer on Sept 2, 2013.  Weighed 525 at 150 days.
Pic taken when Ricky was a week old and Bullseye was 7 weeks.
