questions on a 2nd year heifer

we have a 2nd year calfin heifer. last year she kept her calf always by her side. and now this year she has a very darn good heifer calf but she will hide it in some timber to go across the field to the pond and than lose her and than the calf tries to get out to find her momma any ideas on how to get this cow to keep her calf with her all the time all my others have and never have had this problem before any help will help alot!!
