Red Angus steer shows

Is there any demand for Red Angus steers at all. Do they have like a appendix cross bred class at the Junior National? I have heard that.......like at houston or something similar....they don't want them looking like they are th influenced....or have freaky bone. Is that accurate.....I wonder out loud. I always wondered about a Durham Red steer class at the Shorthorn Nationals.......I assume that that would be a dead duck.

I know Houston and San Antonio at least have Red Angus steer classes.  Classification is strictly visual (papers and breeders don’t matter) but I believe they want them to appear pretty much purebred. We have the classes in the books for Red Angus steers at OYE and Tulsa, but haven’t gotten enough numbers to get them out of the AOB’s yet. I believe Tulsa calls for at least one registered parent, OYE would be strictly visual, like Texas. I’m really not sure if that means they’re gonna have to look like purebreds or if looking like halfbloods is enough.

I’m curious to see how it works out, because we’ve been using Red Angus on our first calf heifers (mostly exotic crosses), and we calved out a set of Red Angus heifers this spring as well. We have a halfblood going to Tulsa, we’re going to nominate him Red Angus and see what happens,

I participated in the American Shorthorn Assn conference call a week or so ago. The Durham Red deal was touched on. There are around 60 Durham Reds registered per year for starters. There are no Durham Red Shows. I always wondered........if there was a Durham Red show.....even once a year.......the deal might take off. There will never be a Durham Red show unless a group of breeders......force the issue.....AND finance a class. So........that's where we are. In some ways........the Shorthorn plus deal has worked better for me that the Durham red deal because I can register cattle that are actually 25% Shorthorn and 75% Red Angus. I've been doing the composite deal for 10 years........and I go with the "best available athlete" so to speak. My goal is to be at 50% each way. In my estimation some of the best cattle are that 75-25%. I do have some Durham Reds but they have to be 50% if I am not mistaken. I told Monte that in my opinion........the Shorthorn Plus cattle are perceived to be club calf type cattle........in which all the genetic defect cattle are dumped. He kind of agreed. They thought that they might change advertising a bit to say that there are composite.......Shorthorn plus cattle that are not a club calf genetic cess pool....(my words). Interesting topic.

We've got a Swagger dtr and a What's Up dtr kept back in the herd. She is bred to SULL Red Blood for this fall.

Horn just sold 2 "Red Angus"-Big $ Ones like these are creating the steers- Like alot of sales-The Roan cow broke the bank-not many people have ones like this anymore-And before we hear  indignation from the peanut gallery-all of these females have sons and daughters working O0

We just put in King of Heart x Lily 803 ( captain obvious)  . King of Hearts is a Webr Card Shark son - impressive offspring photos is why I used him.  The other bull for future mating of  ra x sh  is WEBR Dr Phil.
