heres the scene... I walk in from school on this beutiful day and first thing i usually do is come to the computer to check cattle boards and stuff. First thing i notice is is a black figure hanging from my phone line thing ( it comes out of the ceileng and theres a big roll of it taped up) and plop, first thing going through my head was what the .....  ;D i run out side and get my older brother, comeback in in and the thing is crawling down the wall    and goes behind this foot stool thing over in the corner. When you live where i live, snakes are forbidden lol, THEY MUST DIE. So my brother gets a garden hoe and you can fill in the rest with your imagination....

Seems like every year we end up with a couple pine snakes in the house since we live back in the woods and today left the door cracked, very nice day. Can you guys tolerate a snake....?

Now I will be freeking out all day.  That put a scary image in my head...I HATE SNAKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Yes, Fluffer is a wuss!

Don't be too hard on them, after all, they dine on rats and mice and which would you rather have???  I will take a snake any day over a rat!

Congratulations, Kiddo, you guys just killed a harmless Blacksnake! Don't fuss, later-on, if you have a mouse problem. Unless you have a backyard flock of Hens, Blacksnakes are a good thing.

black snakes are good out side, not in my house though. Mice arent a big deal cause beleive me theres more snakes around then we know what to do with.

A few years ago we had a big copperhead in here...

A few years ago my barn had mice scatter anytime you moved anything.  And bird ........on everything cause of the bird nest in the rafters.  Well we got a visitor one summer day a big ol black coil up in the rafters.  Since then 3 sure things have happened in the barn.
1. not many if any mice left.
2. not any bird nest
***better than any cat****
3. My wife gives the rafters, walls, and floor a good one over before going it there.

---he is right go easy on the black snakes, harmless, and will keep a barn or shed clean...they will bite and it feels kinda like a little bee sting.
Had copperheads in come in my great aunts when I was a kid and scary yes.  Deadly dangerous no. I know they are poisinous but copper's are usually real tollerent of stuff and not the type to strike first and ask ?'s latter. Even if bitten death of the victim is rare.  Now a timber or pygmy rattler (don't remember which it was) was not quite as tollerent--seemed to strike at anything that moved---same goes with a shedding snake...if the loose skin is over their eyes they will strike and anything that bothers them..

Just to freak out all of you "snakeaphobics" , I live in a house that was built in 1870. It has an old limestone foundation that makes an excellent spot for snakes. We have a type of King snake that live in the crawl space below the house (several as a matter of fact). They are pretty shy and even if you go looking for one they are hard to find. We donnot have a mouse or rat problem in this old barn that we live in and you never find another type of snake anywhere near the house (King snakes eat other snakes). I also used to have a "pet" black snake in the barn that kept the rodent population down to zero. RW

I really really really hate snakes. If i ever got bit by a rattler or any other kind, you wouldn't have to get me to a hospital, because i would have done had a heart atack.

Minnimoo are you sure we are not related??? I drive our mower clear across the yard just to slaughter a snake, I mow over them about 20 times, Im sure people driving by
love to see this crazy lady yelling and mowing back and forth , back and forth, I even ruined my husbands best shovel one year pulvarazing one to death (lol)

I grew up on a placw that had 2 creeks make a triangle. Give me a snake over a barn rat any day!

I am still with zach and the other snake fearers!  I will take a rat or mouse over a snake ANY DAY!  My brother has a "pet" snake.  My 18mo daughter loves to play with "max"  they show me pictures all the time of "max" crawling round a chair and my daughter petting his head.  The best part is, my dad is horribly afraid of snakes.  He grew up in souther OH and down there you were taught to be afraid b/c of the poisonous ones.  Well anyways, my brother is remodeling his house right now so he is living with my parents.  So is the snake, but dad doesn't know it  ;D  He would FLIP OUT if he found out.  THey keep it in my old room which happens to be where my daughter sleeps when she is there.  OMG my dad would die if he knew that  (lol)

I have been around snakes almost all of my life.  I was the type of kid that would go out looking for snakes, lizards, etc... and then to my moms dismay bring them inside the house and keep them as pets for a while.  Black snakes are completely harmless  They are called black rat snakes for a reason.  I wish that I could have 10 in my barn right now.  Oh well I like snakes, what can I say.  Right now in my house I have a 4ft long python next to my bed on my dresser.

I do not have a problem with snakes as long as I see them from afar.  Last spring I watched a couple black snakes scale the wall of our barn and eat 2 nest of baby birds.  It is amazing to see what they can do.  I would freak if one was in my house.  Here is one that we almost ran over with the golf cart in our front yard.  I think it is a water snake.

I live/grew up in South Alabama and LOVE snakes even though I've had numerous clsoe encounters with venomous ones..Rattlers, Copperheads and the likes.. I love to play with them..I think my favorite is a small ringneck snake..Pretty cool..with the non venomous ones as far as holding and playing with its sorda a mind over matter thing..they can't hurt you..

the snake in the pict looks like a brown water snake.  Kinda looks like a cotton mouth, but with a different head.  I wouldn't be to worried about him.  They are really aggressive, but not dangerous.  But if you don't know exactly what kind of snake it is don't mess with it.  I learned that a long time ago and still go by that one rule when it comes to snakes.

I've studied snakes in my college courses, handled them several times, understand their ecological usefulness, had a biology professor who loved her Python more than her husband, and you know what??  I just don't like the damn things!!  Don't think I ever will!!  They can seem real cozy when they're not hungry--but when they want something from you--Watch out!!  Kind of like some bankers I've known!!
